will close by year end? I read 673 were just hanging on because of more people having insurance under the ACA. Too bad most are in areas that support the rotting mango in the White House.

Nursing Homes and homes for the Disabled will also close. Who will take care of them?
The many jobs that have been created are due in part to the success of the ACA. That will be wiped out over time. We will begin to see job losses, not years of gains.

(16,846 posts)While the state didnt expand coverage under the ACA, plenty of people did gain access to health insurance via the federal exchanges. There have been a shocking number of hospital closures, most before the ACA and the benefits to rural hospitals in the state. The hardest hit area of the state is west TN, which, outside of Memphis and Jackson, is entirely rural. This news would likely put many of the remaining hospitals in that swath of TN at risk. Youre talking about a minimum hour drive to a hospital, and that doesnt even touch the effects on EMS Services and primary care clinics. Closer to my area in Middle TN, there is a rural hospital my main hospital is affiliated with that is located about 45 mins East of us. That hospital serves a large area in a largely rural, farming area. If that were to happen, some of those patients will have the choice of driving an hour or more to our hospital or another suburban Nashville hospital or driving an hour or more to Cookeville. Its a terrifying situation for these folks and most probably dont even appreciate it yet.
It even reaches to urban communities. Theres a hospital in downtown Nashville that will likely have to close its doors. That hospital cares for most of the lower income/poverty patients in the city.
At the end of the day, all communities in this country are going to be harmed in unspeakable way, rural and urban alike. People are going to die.
