(18,402 posts)We were watching Dancing with the Starts Last Night (OK, there was really nothing on TV last night; don't laugh), and they were asking the contestants to dance to the theme of their most memorable year. There were some tear-jerker stories among them (the football player whose baby daughter had a rare eye cancer and they had to do an experimental operation to avoid total excision of the eyes or something), but this one was touching in a different way. This young singer, Jordan Fisher (though he clearly has had dance training too) picked the year he was legally adopted by his grandparents. His mother had had him when she was 16, and was a drug addict and couldn't take care of him, so the grandparents took him in. Finally, they were able to officially adopt him.
Here's a video of the whole mushy thing:

(9,426 posts)Then I thought back and wondered if MY kids would have been happy to have someone else adopt them?? They constantly complained about the rules I tried to set, so I think they would have welcomed some other Mom rescuing them!

(28,134 posts)I think if your rules were reasonable, your kids would have complained about any normal parents' rules.
My son complained about the rules in this house. But by the time he got into grad school he was thanking us and apologized for his former behavior.

I also hope they get her copies of her original birth certificate before the state seals it away forever.
Her identity and heritage should not be wiped out. Good adoptive parents know that they should be cherished.

(2,284 posts)My granddaughter and her husband adopted an eight year old girl who they had fostered for two years. They started adoption procedures well over a year ago but it takes so long for the adoption to go through. They had a big adoption party for her that was attended by many friends and family members. It was a very happy time for all.
