Trump lies all the time. Good ideas and bad ideas are lies. He went after Corker and lied about it. What for? The guy is leaving. Oh he has got to get back at Corker. Why lie about it? This is a new game for Trump but he is losing, and he is losing by a HUGE!!!! margin...Part of the game is to tell the truth most of the time. Keep to a prepared script. Trump has his own script, he makes it up as he goes along. He is still angry at the mayor of Puerto Rico, and won't let that one go. That is his script.
He is down to 32 percent approval. That will get to 20. Why? We know why. He feels he needs to respond all the time when someone says anything nasty. All the time. Why? That is who he is. He doesn't represent me when he does that, but he represents himself. He has always done it this way. In private business, he could always declare bankruptcy, or he could work out a deal at one third the cost. He could hurt his adversaries with the deal. It was his way. He lied about the original deal to get a cheaper deal.
Trump can't do this in this position. He can try, but it won't work. His position is based on "integrity" but all his life he has played the game with no integrity. He has won some, and lost others. But he played that game.
Here he doesn't know the game. His sons do not know the game. The rules are different. The "truth" is the money in this game. Trump is already loosing. Will he change? Get better? Start playing by the rules?.
He has got to "want to change." You tell me. Does it look like he want to play by the "truth" rules?..We know the last president played by the rules. Each day Obama looks better and better because he is still a world leader and played by the rules and so does his family. Trump doesn't know the rules, and it appears he doesn't care. His subordinates do not play by the "truth rules." I am scared, and I hope he doesn't hurt the rest of us in this world. There are a lot of us in this world, and there is only one of him. Perhaps he should think about us for a change, and stop thinking about himself. I do not think that can happen, because Trump has his own rules and nobody is going to tell him how to play the game.

(21,720 posts)A resignation will only leave us with Fetus Funeral Pence, who's even more extreme than his boss and just as complicit in Russiagate - and worst of all, knows how to appear sane (at least to the media).
The media, in fact, will jump at the opportunity to assure us all that "normalcy" has returned - which couldn't be further from the truth in a Pence regime.

(21,720 posts)Besides being a Bircher (which Trump isn't - though he does love pandering to them) Pence is a known member of the ultra-theocratic 'Family' as well as of the Armageddon Lobby - the same one Bush and half his cabinet was reported to adhere to.
And if Pence, shortly after taking office, were to find himself in the same kind of political hot water his boss is in now (a real likelihood, given his Russiagate complicity), I for one wouldn't put it past him to push us into a war.

(34,130 posts)I have seen nothing to suggest that Pence is unable to restrain himself from taunting and pissing on an opponent. Trump, on the other hand, does that on a daily basis and is itching to use all of his nuclear toys.

Suffice it to say that if I could wave a magic wand, both those freaks would be in Ft. Leavenwoth by now - along with half of their cabinet, and the enterprising Chao clan.

(21,720 posts)It's been months since I've watched his program; but one of the things I always noticed about him is how deferential he usually is about Dense Pence, often saying things like "perhaps the ticket should have been the other way around," etc.
Pence is bad but not the worst. He is typical republican fare, a no rock the boat
Im an 'establishment" republican.

How anyone can think he doesn't need to get out IMMEDIATELY is beyond me.

(4,463 posts)... republicans anymore. They have now seen what they can do while not giving a shit about the boat at all. Pence will not slow down the destruction of our institutions one bit. But he will be able to do it with more efficiency and less blowback because of his perceived "normalcy".
Just ask yourself one question. Do you think Pence could have gotten The ACA repealed? I do. I think the republicans would have fallen in step for him, and he would have worked with McConnel and Ryan.
Trump is a lunatic. But he's dysfunctional as a president and as a leader of the Republican Party. He is damaging them. And he's not getting nearly as much done as the party would like. I don't like it. But I think the country is better off with Trump until - hopefully - we can regain at least the Senate in 2018.

(4,463 posts)... and I inderstand it. But there are a lot of things that have to happen before he can actually launch missiles. Our military is not quite at his beck and call the way he thinks. He can start a conflict, but Pence could quite easily do that as well.
But I get it. It is indeed sad that we are even having a discussion about which faction of the Republican Party is most/least likely to destroy the country or other parts of the world.
And the troglodytes will follow the R regardless of who's at the helm. What few they lose to purity they will more than make up for in getting back rank and file establishment republicans who think Pence is just another traditional R. All of my R friends and acquaintances are hoping Trump goes away and Pence takes over. They will vote for Pence in 2020. They won't vote for Trump. I think our chances in 2018 and 2020 are better the more Trump keeps screwing things up.

(38,458 posts)One in four, not one in three. His lies are just too much for a great majority of us to take. It goes against everything, yes everything we all know. Perhaps one in four will stick with this liar, but no more. ...
...Why?...When we raise our children, we tell them over and over again to tell the truth. I was told that and most of us are told that very early on. Obama got that. Trump got the opposite and almost "enjoys the lies".
It is absolutely necessary in business, but Trump got away with the opposite. So here we are. I just hope that the catastrophe does not happen. Yes it would be awful beyond words. So, in my mind, it would be worth being totally wrong (it would not be the first time I was wrong) on this, to avoid what you say would be "catastrophically bad." Our world does not need that now or in the future. We as a people, "the human race" has had enough. I sure hope this does not happen.

<snip>
Turns out, thats a big fat lie. Who could have guessed? In a statement obtained by the Daily Beast, Corkers chief of staff Todd Womack completely contradicted the presidents claim:
The president called Senator Corker on Monday afternoon and asked him to reconsider his decision not to seek reelection and reaffirmed that he would have endorsed him, as he has said many times, Womack said.
Sure sounds like Trump was the one begging Corker to reconsider his decision and not the other way around. In any case, freed from the burden of a re-election campaign, Corker could clearly care less about the presidents opinion. Shortly after Trump posted his Sunday morning rant, Corker tweeted that it was a shame the White House had become an adult day care center.
Corker, its worth noting, was described by one of his Democratic colleagues, Senator Brian Schatz, as someone who chooses his words carefully.

(38,458 posts)He will be told he "must resign" to save his sons. Trump really doesn't know the game. We went from playing in some high school baseball games,(local) up to the majors and playing in the world series. All in a few months. In order to do something like this, you got to be really sharp and focused on the play. Lincoln did it, and so did Eisenhower, (although Eisenhower was playing in a very, very rough minor league) But he had little background in U.S politics. He did ok. (he had some world class partners in those minor leagues)
Trump does not have "high quality partners now" He doesn't know. He doesn't care. It is all about him. It is like taking a local community playhouse, yea, they got some experience, a little, and placing this group of locals and their "play" right in the middle of "Broadway" with the harshest critics in the world. And some outstanding competition, the very best in the world.
You got to be focused on the game. You must work extra hours learning the rules and changing your play to the new situation. Forget the small s**t. This is the world stage. Arguing with the mayor of Puerto Rico is insane.
How important is a "flag controversy" in the course of world events? Trump has lost already. This is what I think. In order to revive his game, he has got to want to change his game and how he plays. I am not even sure that he realizes he is in the "major leagues" let alone the "world series".
