Oh. My. God.
The 7-Eleven convenience store chain is now featuring a Slurpee-type machine that dispenses mashed potatoes and gravy.
The Huffington Post on Monday confirmed that the Maggi mashed potato vending machines were beginning to show up in stores in the U.S.
For a dollar, you can get a generous helping of mashed potatoes. And then you can wash it down with a Big Gulp for only a dollar more.
The process is simple: Place the cup under the nozzle, press the Mashed Potatoes button and wait for your potatoes to be dispensed. Next, press the optional Chicken Gravy and wait two seconds for your gravy.

(12,799 posts)Does KFC have one of those machines in the kitchen? That would explain a lot, actually.
Instant mashed potatoes don't taste good like a potatoe should.

(154,021 posts)were the food machines under Berne, in the underground in Switzerland, You could get all from milk in a gallon, well liter, to sandwiches, to things like this in the late 70s... you literally could get groceries that way, and ready to eat food.

But, as I mentioned, I am not well in the head.

(24,096 posts)I would be tempted to try it Once. Most likely I would never go back again if it's anything like that thing KFC had a while ago where you get a tub of mashed potatoes, think they added corn niblets in there too, gravy and chicken chunks.
The ads always look appetizing but on trying it - it was gawd awful awful terrible. That's one way to get those things off your mind tho, try one and you'll shiver and heave when you see that next tv commercial.

(13,805 posts)Just because they have a way of providing this meal choice does not mean the contraption will be covered in obese rednecks like a cow patty covered in flies.
Mashed potatoes are available as a side dish at many restaurants and fast-food places. I don't see how this is any different. 7-11 has been in the cheap quick food bidness for decades.
Hot dogs have been available at 7-11s since I was a kid in the '70s and probably before.
Slurpies are usually filled with a sugar-water solution.
I fail to see how this is a problem. The existence of the dispenser ain't gonna make me buy that shit. Probably a million or so folks in your area would feel the same way.

(60,010 posts)it might could sell well down here.
For reasons I do not understand, macroni and cheese is a HUGE favorite down here, to the extent that most local diners and some restuarents keep it on the menu.

(13,805 posts)Then you could just mix them! Gravy on the side in a Big Gulp cup, natch. It's like going to Luby's!
I'm "out there" but I grew up "down here". Like many I had to survived on mac & cheese on occasion. It's popular on the left coast as well, but I rarely imbibe anymore. They also sell what they call "chicken fried steak" out here but, um, sorry, no. It ain't mama's.
Oh, and just because I want them so bad right now, Natchitoches meat pies!
