Just for a moment set all of the political turmoil to the side and consider this. The rules of the Senate allow for a very short window of opportunity during which the Rules of the Senate may be changed. That window will open for a fleeting moment right after the election.
This is just my opinion, but it seems to me that the strongest tool the Republican Party has used to control Government for the last three and a half years has been the misuse of the Filibuster* in the Senate. Meaningful legislation has been stopped dead in its tracks by the rule that causes a super-majority to vote to end debate.
If this rule is not changed the next four years will be just like the last three, just with increasing rancor and if my guess is correct increasing violence in the streets. I think this and election fraud (not voter fraud) are the two most important issues facing the Democratic Party in the next half year.

(36,063 posts)Sometimes the democrats are in the minority, and they will like that rule better.
The real problem is that the DCDems are not unified and so they have difficulty getting to the 61 votes. That's a consequence of having a party with wide geographic and broader ideological range than the r's.
I'm not sure I'd want to be part of a party with regional strength and narrow ideology.

(58,773 posts)Harry Reid has said IIRC, that he would like to "address" this or something wishy-washy to that effect. It gives me a glimmer of hope, but only a glimmer.
We do need to pare down the tyranny of the minority a bit to get things done.
In any event, we definitely need to defend all Dem seats in the Senate this election AND try for the majority in the House again. I'd hate to see the stonewalling continue.
