Not to detract from your point. It is obvious and we can ask what reason could there be that it is not pointed out more often.
To answer it: many fundamentalist self-styled christians believe that contraception is equivalent to abortion. There is also the Catholic prohibition on contraception.
But in your remark: You missed the period. As written it read "so obvious why" which on first read sounds like an explanation rather than a question (and question mark was missing). A speed bump for the reader.
