What Obama really said (about small business)

http://www.barackobama.com/truth-team/fact-check-what-president-obama-actually-said-about-small-businesses

"...Mitt Romney is deliberately taking President Obama’s words out of context in order to distort the President’s record of support for small businesses... Romney decided to selectively edit President Obama to make it appear like the President was insulting small businesses: “[President Obama] said this, ‘If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.’ That somebody else is government, in his view ... To say something like that is not just foolishness, it’s insulting to every entrepreneur, every innovator in America, and it’s wrong.”

But it’s Romney’s statement that’s wrong—it’s a complete distortion. Here’s what the President actually said:

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”

The President’s full remarks show that the “that” in “you didn’t build that” clearly refers to roads and bridges—public infrastructure we count on the government to build and maintain..."

Someone should be fired for that. Or at least chewed out.

into "an insult to small business owners" and should be called out. They demand apologies and retraction when we point out contradictions in their lies then they turn around and do their best to distort something mundane like this.

I love that Romney cited Henry Ford as a small business owner who would have succeeded just fine even if the government did NOT build ROADS.

is an insult, even if it is true
to a certain extent.

telling a small-business-owner
that they do not own all of their business,
they will respond by saying ,
that they, their parents, and grandparents
paid taxes and served in wars, and they
earned what they have

self-righteous, pompous, self-deluded, ego-maniacal conservatives... any intelligent, critically thinking person understands how gov't programs (infrastructure, social systems, etc...) benefit many small businesses and the people who run these businesses...

the argument against this is ignorant

Tonight this was one of the main stories (soundbites, really) on ABC radio news. Okay, EXPECTED. They're the network that carries Limbaugh, Hannity and other creeps.

What SHOCKED THE HELL OUT OF ME was to hear this same GOP spin on the story (Obama's quote, taken out of context, with no direct pushback or clarification from the President) on PBS, "News Hour" (the one with Ray Suarez, etc). UNBELIEVABLE.

The President's team NEEDS to push back on this story, it makes him look AWFUL. What are they waiting for? They still feel giddy about the Romney tax returns story? WAKE UP!!! You're getting steamrolled on this!

Obama has a rapid response team. I'm sure they have some strategy for this. Maybe they are letting Romney dig a hole here.

Bill Clinton said "Every time they attack you it gives you a chance to get YOUR message out."
