CBS fires executive for 'deeply unacceptable' post after Vegas shooting
Stephen Battaglio

CBS Corp. fired a vice president in business affairs Monday for comments she made on social media regarding the mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, wrote on her Facebook page that she was not sympathetic to victims of the shooting because, she claimed, most country music fans are Republican.

Geftman-Gold also wrote: “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”

The comments were deleted but not before they were picked up on a number of right-wing blogs and websites. A petition was posted online that called for her firing.

A CBS spokesperson confirmed that Geftman-Gold was dismissed because of her comments.

“This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families,” the company said in a statement.

8. But she is right. Many country music fans are huge 2nd Amendment fans. Pretending it isn't so is BS

Should this journalist have written this? No. It is just stupid. But I wrote today that I have trouble even paying attention to these mass shootings anymore. We just had one last week. Last month. Last year. Why do we act shocked when things like this happen? It is predictable. We know it will happen again and again and again. No surprise. I turn my tv and radio off. We gave up the right to be heartbroken over these shootings when we had 20 six year olds killed in school and nothing changed. We should have shut DC down over this. So I just expect these shootings. Compassion fatigue.
When the NV Senator voted against any sane gun regs, and was sent to DC by the people, what do we expect?? Really? e will have more of these, over and over and over. The only partially safe way to avoid being killed by a nut with a gun is to live in a state with strict gun laws, but even that is no guarantee. Just a bit safer.

9. Republican support for stricter gun control is higher

It's higher this year than previously, with at least one poll I recenrly looked at showing a 7 point increase from 37% to 44%. So chances are really high that a lot of victims were gun control supporters, not that it really matters when talking mass murder. Can't ask dead people what their views and affiliations were to decide if they deserved it or not.

5. She's right about Repubs not doing anything given their lack of action after Sandy Hook.

She was correct with that statement yet that point is forgotten with the heartlessness in her next sentence.

6. Nevada is a red state. Heller voted against bans on auto weapons, bans on mag size, voted against

mandatory background checks. Most country music fans ARE conservative. This is just demographics.
I feel so torn about this, cause when you vote for those who support the NRA, this is what you get. I KNOW many of those harmed or killed probably don't support the crazy lack of gun laws they have in Nevada. But many did. So are they complicit in this, by their votes?? When you vote for those who don't care about the loss of 20 six year olds, killed while cowering in their classrooms in schools, should I weep and gnash my teeth when those guns you love are turned on you? I should be. But I have serious compassion fatigue. Truly.
We reap what we sow, and pretending to be appalled at that is hypocrisy. I am sick and tired of hearing Repubs talk about prayers for the victims. Prayers won't change laws.
Having said that, I would never say this at work. That was just stupid.

I cannot support her not sympathizing withbthe victims. I know a lot of liberal country music fans.
