Stereotype of a terrorist that is.
Islamic? Nope.
Poor or broke? Heck no.
Mental illness? None seen.
A brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Craig Paddock says he was a multimillionaire who made much of his money investing in real estate.
Eric Paddock told reporters Monday in Orlando that his brother was also an accountant for many years.
He was not aware of his brother having any recent financial difficulties.
Stephen Craig Paddock recently sent a walker by mail to his 90-year-old mother.
The brother says the shooter collected coins when he was a child.
Police have said the suspect killed at least 58 people in the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history.

(590 posts)We can only speculate at this point. IMHO, it is OK to speculate because it can be somewhat comforting to try to understand the cause of tragedy.
I'd have to guess marital issues, girlfriend issues, or gambling losses issues.

(12,700 posts)Could have looked down on the crowd below, saw thousands of happy people, and got furious because he was by himself.
Could have been depressed and angry with the way things were going in his life, or at something we'd never now know, and decided to take it out on the world.
Could have suddenly gotten the urge to go out in a blaze of homicidal glory because he had the means to do so with him at that moment.
Even he himself might not have predicted doing this - he might have just been there for the Gun Show that opens later this week with some stuff he was going to sell. And others might not have really noticed him slowly becoming "off" - he might have just been that slightly goofy or weird guy that was competent and otherwise pleasant to them.
There's thousands of small reasons that affect individuals who do things like this - as small as "I don't like Mondays". (This is not flip - I was 10 miles away when Brenda Spencer decided to shoot up an elementary school from her bedroom window)

Being white and male doesn't excuse him from that description.
