General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMitt Romney has a "pissy" problem- and it's serious.
this is a candidate who seemingly cannot, absolutely just cannot, hide how pissed off he is about things not going his way. It's pretty astonishing actually, that this guy has such a thin skin. and that he can't hide it. He's coming off as who he may well be: petulant, entitled, whiny, petty and pissy. Not exactly likable characteristics or ones which indicate leadership.

(14,180 posts)dominance and submission. (I think it was DUer Jackpine Radical who first turned me on to this idea.)
Romney needs to be absolutely humiliated at every turn.

(45,274 posts)"What's going through his mind?" I didn't answer then becauseI really couldn't pretend to know, but your own comments and those of others downthread provided me with some fresh thoughts.
I think he is not experiencing cognitive dissonance because facts have no particular relevance to him & he doesn't care about conflicts that arise between contradictory beliefs. For one thing, that would require that he actually have beliefs (other than a belief in his own semidivinity).
I believe that he is simply filled with rage that people are not showing him proper deference. That is something outside his experience, against the natural order of life as he has known it.
What do you do when someone grossly affronts you? You demand an apology. It makes no difference if the affront is embedded in facts. Nobody has the right to stand in your way, nobody has the right to challenge you.

(2,940 posts)I believe you've hit the nail on the head - he really believes that he is superior to the "common people" and he really can't quite believe that he has to answer to non-millionaires. He thinks that his money alone is proof that he is a better person than us, and he doesn't understand why we don't agree with him about that.

I don't run in his circles (the 1%) and have never known anyone who does, so I'm merely speculating about the 'rage' I sense beneath the surface.

(14,549 posts)The attitude is 'if I say there are no lobbyists in my campaign then you little peasants better write "there are no lobbyists in Mitt's campaign" period.'
I'm not sure Mitt has ever had to submit to any higher authority after the age of about 17. He didn't do sports. He wasn't very good with school work. Didn't work for other people. But he is the king of his own castle, master of his domain.

(60,212 posts)It's a corollary to the "Private gains, public risks" saying:
If Bain does something good, he gets the credit, but if they do something bad then he had nothing to do with it.
Where is the responsibility?

(19,458 posts)Pretty easy stuff.. just reverse it for Romney.
bluesbassman
(19,383 posts)For their strain of "private equity", profit is the only consideration. With all the reports out there involving Bain, I've yet to see a story showing how Bain "did the right thing" by the employees or community, even if it meant them losing money (or not even making as large a profit). One would think that given all the bad press they've been experiencing they would showcase any remotely compassionate scenarios.

(42,426 posts)I was always struck by how pissy he would get during the rare press conferences he would condescend to do, although he at least made an attempt at hiding it better than Mittens. Jeb always seemed so annoyed that these little people had the nerve to be questioning him.
I'm seeing the same dynamic now but for Romney, there's no hiding it. GW Bush used his fake good ol' boy accent and fooled the media that way. Jeb, at least during the several hurricanes that hit FL during his tenure, was able to show intelligence and a grasp of the situation (and he speaks fluent Spanish). Otherwise, I barely recall him speaking to the media because he couldn't contain his annoyance.
I truly believe that Mitt thinks he's above all this - he shouldn't have to release his tax returns because he says so, that's why.

(13,669 posts)people who are looking at this with a clear head should be put off by a lot of his flaws- especially his inability to keep a cool head and patiently and politely make his case.
Not sure that the "anybody but Obama" gang are going to let this sway them.
Romney is not presidential material- he doesn't have leadership qualities. Being CEO is different than being a leader. You are in effect a dictator when you are a CEO, not someone who looks out for the good of all the workers. imo

(14,524 posts)... astonished or even mildly surprised. Most 1%er jerks operate like this. Arrogant bullying and living as if the rules don't apply to them, is standard operating procedure for filthy rich sociopaths, ESPECIALLY those that are born into it.

(45,274 posts)It's all part of that sense of entitlement. Nobody around him dares to make him angry. He's used to people cowering & tugging their forelocks whenever he shows the slightest sign of displeasure. He has never needed to control his anger because everyone around him is deathly afraid of him. He likes to fire people, you know. (God, I fantasize a Romney/Trump ticket!)

Wonder how Mitter's party feels about their candidate NOW? Wasn't a lot of joy before.
Still can't doubt what Money will buy to make this "incident" at Bain go away. Is there a janitor somewhere that will take the fall the SuperPACs come up with. Those hanging chads in Florida will haunt my fears forever.
