After seeing Joel Osteens interview on ABC this morning, most of the scam/lie warning signs became apparent: Seemingly gentle smile but way too much, almost imperceptible shifting about, talking too fast but more than anything, blinking. That boy can blink. Boy howdy, can he ever. He was a-blinkin' fast, slow, in between, blinking looking here, blinking looking there, just couldn't stop. Maybe I'm a bit judgmental and perhaps there's a medical reason but experience tells me to get away fast; there's likely some selling of something going on there.

(16,889 posts)We love to lay in bed at night on the weekends and watch televangelists. Not because we're buying what they're selling, but we love to laugh at the sheer audacity of the specticle. I have a pretty spot on impression of Osteen that I do to make my wife laugh and the eye blink is key in selling the impression!!!

(9,685 posts)My wife and I used to tune into Falwell's show on Sunday mornings for similar reasons. The spectacle is worth the pain. Then we started timing the segments - preaching, commercials, singing and the "Fleecing of the Flock". Of course they called it faith partners or praying for prosperity or some such. I don't remember the numbers for sure, but the message/preaching part was like five minutes or less. The singing part maybe ten. The rest was some form of Bringing in the Sheaves. Rolling up our sleeves. Let us count their Dollars. It's easy being Thieves. It was an hour show if I remember right.
