One of the things that is happening is youre purchasing large amounts of our F-18 aircraft from Boeing. Its one of the great planes, one of the great fighter jets, Trump said Monday, standing next to his Finnish counterpart.
Niinistö did not comment on Trumps assertion at the time but looked surprised. He later denied the Boeing deal on Twitter and to reporters in Washington, as reported by Reuters.
It seems that on the sale side, past decisions and hopes about future decisions have mixed ... The purchase is just starting, and that is very clear here, Niinistö said...
...good for Niinistö, calling out Trump lies.

As a Finnish person I think everyone should look at this photo of President Niinistö and his dog Lennu again

(12,688 posts)We'll do what we think is best. Okay, Finland bought a bunch of fighter jets from Boeing back in the day and now need to replace them. There's what is known in the contract world a "RFP" - Request for Proposal - out for the replacements. Four European companies, and Boeing.
You try to bully us into a corner where the polite thing to say is "yes, of course" - and we stare at you in stony silence if we have to be polite.
And when we don't have to smile and be polite, you lost. You try to make us say we'll buy Boeing in public, and you've ensured that RFP and the thousands of U.S. jobs it might have provided is now in the circular file.
And we'll carry our beloved dogs in public at a formal ceremony, if we feel like it, no matter how silly it may look.

...pets often resemble their human companions.
Being mildly amused by Niinistö and Lennu isn't some slight to Finland (although I've never really accepted the growing practice of carrying dogs. I do find that absurd.)
