No collusion
Trump has declared over and over that there was no collusion between his campaign and Vladimir Putins regime, which, according to the US intelligence community, mounted a covert operation to subvert the 2016 election to help Trump become president. On May 8, Trump tweeted, The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end? He maintained he was the victim of Democratic conspiracy-mongering: Again, the story that there was collusion between the Russians & Trump campaign was fabricated by Dems as an excuse for losing the election. At a May news conference, he proclaimed, The entire thing has been a witch hunt. And there is no collusion between certainly myself and my campaign, but I can always speak for myself and the Russians, zero. The next month, he tweeted, After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my collusion with the Russians, nobody has been able to show any proof. Sad! He claimed that any talk of collusion was unfair to him: There is no collusion & no obstruction. I should be given apology!
Nothing to see here
From the moment the news broke that the Democratic National Committee had been penetrated by hackers associated with Russian intelligencea story that hit the headlines a mere five days after Trump Jr., Kushner, and Manafort met with the RussiansTrump and his aides immediately challenged the notion that Moscow was behind this break-in. The Trump campaigns first response to the DNC breach was to blame the victim. It released an absurd statement: We believe it was the DNC that did the hacking as a way to distract from the many issues facing their deeply flawed candidate and failed party leader. And in the weeks and months ahead, Trump and his mouthpieces regularly maintained there was no evidence the Russians were hacking the election. But Trumps most senior advisers had been informed (see above) that Putins regime was aiming to intervene secretly to hurt Clinton and benefit Trump. More than anyone, they knew their claim that Russia was not involved in political skullduggery was hollow.
No business with Russia
Trump has repeatedly proclaimed he has no commercial interactions with Russia. One example: Nine days before moving into the White House, he tweeted, I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!

(15,682 posts)I looked 3 times. Omg, am I becoming senile? Going blind?
Maybe that's what I get for being so mean. I have honestly never wished so hard to see more and uglier dirt on a another human being in my life. I should be ashamed.
Oh, crap. I just checked myself and I'm not. I am not ashamed.
Oh well, maybe another time.

(7,888 posts)for sharing and David Corn for his excellent investigation and reporting on this topic.
David Corn took quite a comment beating on both progressive and alt-right sites when he first tried to sound the alarm within the confines of the time and intelligence community limitations, July of 2016.

(18,837 posts)...and for the same reasons that many DUers are fans of Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell, David deserves the same acclaim.
You are welcome, and it is always my pleasure to share his reporting here.

(9,426 posts)by elites in NY? He is uncouth, ignorant, low class, can not learn ANYTHING, corrupt, bloated with his own lies about himself and family. He does not have what it takes to be president. Whoever coined that phrase "Anyone can grow up to be president" had no idea THIS atrocity would eventually become president. Thankfully, the gop OWNS this disaster. The WH will have to be FUMIGATED once this crew is evicted.

(713 posts)I can't wait for Trump to be deposed. The news is that his Trump Organization was trying to get a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, financed by a Bank that is majority owned by the Russian Government. Rachel Maddow covered this story this week.
So, we have Trump on video denying that he and his people had anything to do with Russia, when in fact he and his Organization were in talks to build a major Trump real estate project in Moscow, funded and backed by a Russian Bank that is essentially an arm of the Putin Government.
The colossal stupidity and hubris of this is almost unbelievable, but that is the thing with Sociopaths. They don't think that they will get caught, and they will lie all the way through. They lie and they scheme and they think that everyone else is a sucker that they can scam, but eventually these conniving con men get caught in their own webs.
So far, Trump and his Cronies thought they could escape Mueller's prosecution by just pardoning everyone involved, but Mueller is way too smart for that. He is now working with New York State Attorney General Schneiderman. If State charges are filed, they are beyond the reach of Presidential pardons. Presidents may only pardon Federal crimes.
Schneiderman is a good man and great prosecutor who has already gotten a $25 Million Dollar settlement out of Trump for the Trump University scam. Trump got beat by Schneiderman, and had to settle the case. So, Mueller is working with the New York State AG to get around the Presidential pardon issue. The President can not pardon State Crimes.
Now, with the New York State AG on the case, State charges can not be pardoned by the President. Trump will be rendered powerless. If they can make State charges stick against someone like Manafort, they can make him flip and co-operate against Trump and others. The pardon of Joe Arpaio was a signal to all of the corrupt Trump-ites who are under investigation. The message was clear: keep your mouth shut, do not turn on me, and I will pardon you with my Presidential powers. Trump must be fuming once someone explains to him that the President has NO POWER over State Jurisdictions. Maybe he will have a stroke.
What is rich is that Trump might ultimately get beaten badly in his home state. I am a proud New Yorker, and I feel that my state is a stronghold against the Trump madness and alt-Right. The AG is a great guy. So, hopefully an extensive criminal case is going to be built, in New York, and maybe we will see Trump and his Cronies charged.
If Trump tries to hang on to the Presidency during the ordeal of prosecution, he should also face Impeachment in the Congress. He will be attacked from many sides, and I am sure that plenty of Republicans will even join in to try and save their own skins by being tainted due to guilt by association with Trump.
The noose is tightening, and it is only a matter of time before Trump and his corrupt cronies get caught in it. More power to Mueller and Schneiderman, and also journalists like Maddow who bring this information and analysis to us.
