"A photo posted early Sunday morning showed heavy flooding about a block away from Lakewood Church".

Craig Hlavaty | on July 14, 2015
This week in 2005 the Lakewood Church congregation moved into the building formerly known as the Compaq Center and before that, The Summit, the venue where Houston saw some of the best rock concerts to ever hit the city.
Houston sports fans will of course always have fuzzy warm memories of the building because the Houston Rockets happened to win two NBA Championships under that very roof.

After $95 million in renovations and much political wrangling, the church moved into its new 16,000-seat home on July 16, 2005, a church home complete with miles of carpet and indoor waterfalls.
Joel and Victoria Osteen lead the Lakewood congregation, the largest in the United States with more than 40,000 in attendance each week, with millions watching the video feed around the world in 100 countries. The Osteen brand grew exponentially with the move into the cavernous digs.

Lots of pics at link and rest of story....
Now way is Joel going to open this place up to "refugees".
If he were he would already have done so.

(17,235 posts)I'm sure his congregation and organization will do a lot of good work for the Houston area and Texas going forward. Looks like the church is not accessable at this time and they may have incurred a lot of water damage. This is no time to adopt fox destruction behavior.
