Transgender military members walked the signature blue carpet at MTVs Video Music Awards Sunday, just days after President Trump ordered the Pentagon to implement a ban on transgender troops.
GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis joined transgender service members Brynn Tannehill, Laila Ireland, Akira Wyatt, Jennifer Peace, Logan Ireland and Sterling James Crutcher at the awards, according to Billboard.

"Historically, the VMAs have been a huge platform for social issues that are currently happening, so being able to have that platform and share our stories is important to us," Ireland, an Army veteran, told Billboard before the awards.
MTV invited the service members after Trump formally ordered the ban on Friday.
Any patriot who is putting their own life at risk to fight for our freedom and stand for equality is a hero at MTV, and to young people everywhere," MTV president Chris McCarthy said in a statement to Billboard.
