A handful of pro-Trump protesters were chased from a Berkeley park by counter-protesters clad in black garb and masks on Sunday, after a planned No Marxism in America rally fizzled out amidst opposition and police pressure. Organisers called off the rally.

This is from Mother Jones writer, Shane Bauer, who says the event was largely not violent (with some exceptions, obviously).

(6,139 posts)I am conflicted about this and do not support it per se. However, if my house is under attack by nazis, I would give everything to antifa to protect me cause police won't help you once we are at that stage. (Ask Holocoust survivors).
We are entering an active phase of fascism with potentially much more catastrophic events than in Nazi Germany due to much greater diversity in our country. I am already seeing alt right is winning by controlling the message with full WH support and sympathizing congress. Sinclair broadcasting is coming to your house soon, judicial branch is being deligitimized by appoitning of unprecedented number of alt right federal judges across the country. We are two SC justices away from overthrowing democracy. This is because I beleive Roberts has been moving to the center and he seems to respect precedent. The entire system is at the mercy of Ginsburg and Kennedy.

(811 posts)I denounce Antifa violence as an affront to liberal values.
These folks are not my allies. That this is happening in Berkeley (the home of my alma mater) makes it all the worse.
