The Oregon state legislature is locked at 30 Democrats and 30 Republicans, and I'm seeking to break that logjam. Here's a recent article from Blue Oregon:

DU is a tremendous community full of brilliant and caring human beings. I'm honored to be a part of it, and I humbly ask for your support in this race. It'll be a busy summer and fall, and I may not have lots of time to post here, but I'll keep you up to date on my race.

Many people around the country think Oregon is always safely blue - not true! Outside of PDX, the Coast and Eugene, we're experiencing in right-wing radio and massive flag-waving. We must continue to fight the good fight.

(9,823 posts)It will not only reject the failed War on Drugs approach to the use of marijuana, it will open up the production of hemp, a real miracle crop, to Oregon farmers - the best in the world.

(37,573 posts)truthfully, I had never heard of you, but you have been here longer than I. Served on 64 juries but have only had 34 posts in the last 90 days. You must do a lot more reading than posting. Either that or a lot of people have me blocked from their juries.
Does Oregon have a unicameral legislature? If so, it is a very small one. Little ol' Kansas, with a million less people and 14,000 fewer square miles has 125 in the Kansas House and 40 in the Kansas Senate. Of course, in Kansas, 30 to 30 would be awesome. I think the Senate is 31-9 and the House is something like 84-41. Or worse. Our House Mintority leader is turning 40 and is HOPING for 40 in the House. So I guess we are currently worse than 85-40.
Ugh, I sure picked a hell of a state to register as a Democrat.

(9,823 posts)60 reps. Each house district contains about 65,000 people, and this one is somewhat rural and nostalgic. It'll be a tough race, but I'm hoping for some DU love to sustain me.

(37,573 posts)and you seem to be older than I am.
For one example, back even as recent as 1986, the bottom 50% made more money (collectively) than the top 1%. Now the bottom 50% makes about half as much as the top 1%.
So we should go back to the old days.

(146,350 posts)Running for office is a tough job. Try to speak and listen personally to as many people in your district as possible, and try to recruit people to speak and listen personally to those you can't get to. For state offices, that's the path to a win, in most cases. Every personal contact is a potential vote for you. Advertising is good, but personal contact is better.
I'll be pulling for you!
