(24,259 posts)because that area "never floods". Apparently there was a lot of flooding in areas that "never flood". She must be kicking herself like crazy now but if you're not familiar with an area and are told that it's safe by locals, or local official you tend to trust the local.
Anyway, it's horrible to see them all like this but I'm so very glad they're all safe now. Hopefully they're none the worse for the experience.
Now let's hope like crazy that the cats that were there were rescued and are okay now too.

(19,569 posts)I don't think people really understand how bad it is down in SE Texas right now. Ben Taub hospital the primary trauma center for Houston is currently being evacuated. It's seriously a major disaster.

(14,811 posts)Seems like the staff should have done more to keep them out of that water. Put chairs up on tables or something damn it.

My guess is that they were calm because they knew help was on the way.

His wife, Kimberly McIntosh, said her mother sent the picture at 9 a.m. this morning.
She said it was a disaster and they were hoping the national guard would come, Kimberly McIntosh said.

Also, the one woman who is a bit stooped over, looks like she is getting up to walk somewhere. Moving through water is hard for a fit person. She looks like she needs assistance when walking on dry land.
I would imagine the water is pretty cool as well. Even a young, fit person would not be calm sitting there and doing needle point.
I wonder...

Hey, sometimes there are no good options, or the one you have chosen based on the best information you had turns out to have been the wrong one.
I hate armchair outrage.
