Chuck Todd: Is Trump Trying to Remake the GOP or Just 'Blow Up Everything'?

by Josh Feldman | 10:58 am, August 27th, 2017

Chuck Todd examined the “war” between President Trump and his own party this morning in reflecting on the last week in politics.

He brought up the unique situation of a President attacking a Congress controlled by his own party as he reviewed Trump’s attacks on Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Jeff Flake, and Bob Corker:

“So what’s President Trump up to? Does he want to take down the Republican party and remake it in his own image, or simply blow up everything and govern by motivating his passionate base?”

“Either way,” Todd concluded, “he’s gonna need those Republicans he’s mocking right now if he’s gonna get any of his agenda passed in the fall.”

He has no interest in the Republican Party beyond having figured out they were going to be the convenient one to get him into the White House. All he cares about is that he gets to do exactly what he wants to do.

Trump isn't trying to remake anything. He wouldn't know how to start. Trump is the product of a Republican Party already remade. Ryan and McTurtle are having problems not because of Trump, but because Trump is emblematic of what their party has become. It isn't Trump that is outside of the republican mainstream. Now, it's Ryan and McTurtle that are outside of the Republicans mainstream. They created this monster, but they didn't know how to control it, and it morphed into the horror it has now become. The KKK hasn't moved closer to the Republican mainstream. The Republican mainstream moved toward the KKK. They are now practically sharing the same bed, and the cuckolded lovers (Ryan, McTurtle, Flake, Corker, McCain et al.) are the last to know. They don't WANT to know, either. As long as there's a bucket of sand left, they'll find a way to stick their heads in it.

because they claim that the government is not working for them.

Which is funny because the people they vote for cackle with glee at the fact that they've been making the government into a non-functional shit show for 2 decades

Trump can't see beyond himself. There is no larger picture looming. No ulterior motives. There are only two things that Trump's attention-deficient mind concentrates on, on a daily basis:

1. Trump

2. Russia
