(6,551 posts)I have a dear friend in Houston and have not been able to reach her. She lives alone in a first floor apartment.
Three more days of solid rain forecasted and then it begins to taper off. I lived in Houston for many years, got through 3 major floods and one hurricane, and nothing compares to this.

(3,769 posts)we have plenty of water and milk. Also we have ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, beans, rice and probably some other stuff we can make. I wish I had thought to buy some tuna.

(3,769 posts)except a little stir crazy. Obviously can't go out in this mess. Wish I could go get an ice tea at McDonald's. It's not flooded around her and I could probably get to 2 of them but they aren't open anyway.
No flooding, still have electricity.

(51,080 posts)Absence from McDonald's iced tea makes the heart grow fonder. It'll taste that much better when you get it.

(4,558 posts)In Kingsland area west Houston. Haven't lost power, and my home, driveway, and road in front of my house is clear of standing water. I'm about a block away from Mayde Creek though, and it's just down the road from my home. If it rains tonight like it did last night, may have water inside come Monday Morning. Neighbors 4 houses down to the creek now have water inside. Have 2 of my neighbors staying in our upstairs guest rooms now. and some of their prized posessions in my garage. Moving it to our upstairs attic space now, along with our own stuff downstairs that I want to protect from possible water.

(4,558 posts)Last night around 9-11:30 pm it got really close (water entered the garage which is about 3" lower than the main house slab), but the rain stopped at around 11:30 and started receding. This water level is back down to the road.

(20,245 posts)Listening to the frogs right now. Hoping when they open the floodgates on the dams nearby that Buffalo Bayou doesn't overflow too quickly.

(20,245 posts)They started a controlled release of water from Barker Reservoir about 12 hours ago. It hasn't caused any rise in Buffalo Bayou (.8 miles from me) YET. I haven't ventured beyond my apartment complex since Friday evening, but my ground floor apartment is dry, as is my car and the tiny street we are situation on. I lost power for an hour or 2 last night. Both my cats are in, in fact my rescued feral who spends most of his time outside is sleeping beside me right now. Feeling lucky.

(51,080 posts)she said, "so far so good" about the dam release in her area. Now if only the rain would stop...
