Most people say NO to both questions for three reasons...
1. His base is "a cult of personality" meaning they elected him because they like his thuggish personality and character and NOT the issues and that will never change.
2. This administration and fake prez do NOT follow the norm and can not be compared to past presidents using the same standards (such as polls). We are in new, unprecedented territory.
3. When you do the math and break down the numbers the amount of votes from his base gives us a limited perspective when elections come around in 2018. About 50% of the US population voted and only 50% voted for him. That is 25% of the population that voted for him and not all of them are his base. We have to focus on the borderline voters and those who didn't vote at all.
Looking at the polls evert other day is not as important as other factors in assessing the current political climate and adjusting our strategies and goals.

(11,142 posts)Trump's support among Republicans is far higher than that. Base polls matter because they are what Republicans in Congress will be looking at when deciding whether to distance themselves from Trump.

(24,128 posts)They obviously didn't work during the last presidential election and they're not working now. They have not kept up with technology, and by this I mean that they are primarily conducted via land line phones.
I'm an old lady of 59 years, and I abandoned my traditional phone ten years ago. I know people in their seventies who have done the same. I hope to Dog that I won't be getting spam and polling through my cell phone and suspect many other people feel the same way.
The polling model has been thrown on its head.

(4,428 posts)I saw this same topic in 2003. There was no way Bush II could win in 2004. His numbers were in the tank. Iraq was a complete disaster and no one but his hard core followers would support him.
Don't make the same mistake.
