OK, I realize with Sheriff Joe and The hurricane, the fight tonight might not be on people's minds Howveer, , the fight is a symobol of exactly where we are as a nation.
Conor: Not much actual experience, but he thinks that because he has had success in one area, he can walk right into something and be an expert. Loves to flirt with racist and populist memes (he did that long before he made black jokes about Floyd.) Is loved by "working class people" who want to see Floyd (aka a competent minority) taken down.
Floyd: Competent, but very much a manipulator of behind the scenes politics. Will never enter a battle unless he has done everything behind the scenes to win, then crow about how all this victory is due to talent. Does lip service to social causes, but then will brutally attack anyone that stands in his way. Even though you want to admire his talent, and give him his due, he will do many things to make himself unlikable, especially as it is clear he thinks he does not need you, although he would be broke otherwise.
Yes, you can get who Trump is symbolized by, and sadly, the current democratic party is very much like Floyd: you can NOT deny he deserves to win, that he should not even have to get into a ring with Conor, because that very act give Conor (and trump) a legitimacy they do not even deserve; but Floyd is greedy, arrogant, and refuses to change what HE thinks has been working for years. Yes, this is something I also link to the democrats, because, like Floyd, they still think they can keep doing what worked in the 90's and rule the world.
To quote desus and Mero "this is the fight you deserve America."

(45,580 posts)Women. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes a crap fight is just a crap fight. No reason to bring politics into the equation. It is nothing more than a contrived spectacle designed to take in as much cash as possible.

(9,527 posts)He's hardly a hero, nor is he representative of the Democratic party. Mayweather isn't taking the fight to legitimize Conor, he's doing it because he's going to get $100 million for it. There's a reason he's not fighting random boxers. He takes fights that get him big money. McGregor is taking the fight because he's going to get a shit ton of money too. McGregor doesn't want to be in the fight game for the long term. He wants to get his money and get out.
It's not a valid comparison to the two parties. One party wants to screw everybody, including a majority of their supporters, and the other party while not perfect is on the right side of every major issue I can think of. The fight is about two people getting a bunch of people to give them a lot of money.

(13,616 posts)Remember the meme that was pumped here how if only we supported more anti abortion democrats we might get the midwest back? The democrats SHOULD be the woman;s party, but there are far too many who are not.

(89,286 posts)Both guys will make lots of money along with many others.
Even the loser will make off with money.
Both are bigoted and trash talk is part of the whole thing to make money.

(11,258 posts)Five different women have accused him of domestic abuse, and those are just the ones who reported it.
For some reason, our country has become numb to abusing women, such that we elected a guy with a history of abuse. Not violent abuse, but abuse nonetheless.
I tried to start a thread about this the other day, and people had no idea why I was connecting the two. One jackass even asked sarcastically why I wasn't comparing Trump to Harry Potter.
Most days, DU is one of the most enlightened places on the Internet. This isn't one of them.

(13,616 posts)but the point was to show that the democrats, if they do not want to lose, need to keep their support of women up and make it better.

(11,258 posts)I totally got your post. My frustration was directed at other posters.
I know next to nothing about McGregor. I'm not super into his on stage antics, but for all I know it's just an act. There's no mistaking who Mayweather is in "real life."

(50,585 posts)That being said, Conor McGregor comes off as someone who could give Donald Trump asshole lessons. I hope someone just knocks the living shit out of him, and since the first actual opponent McGregor has had is Floyd Mayweather, I guess it all comes down to him.
