I Would Never Advocate.....

to leave fellow Americans unassisted in a time of need, regardless of their politics. However, sometimes you just have to appreciate the irony (or is it Karma) that life presents you.

Texas Republicans hit by Hurricane Harvey voted against Sandy aid for N.J.

With Texas now having to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, lawmakers there will be looking for federal disaster aid - after they voted against a crucial aid package for New Jersey and New York following Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

The Dallas News says eight Texas representatives in 2013 voted against replenishing the National Flood Insurance Program, which was already running out of money ahead of Sandy.

All but one member of the Republican delegation from Texas also voted no on a second bill providing $50.5 billion in aid for Sandy victims.

Early projections are that Harvey, which came ashore Friday night as a Category 4 storm, could cause $40 billion in damages.

Gov. Chris Christie, who had announced his bid for the GOP presidential nod, had specifically called out Sen. Ted Cruz in 2015 for his "no" vote when Texas had already received aid for flooding in previous disasters.

Opposition to the Sandy spending package delayed relief to New Jersey, New York and Connecticut by nearly three months.
