"TRUMP 2020"??

Does anyone actually believe that Trump will last in the White House until 2020?

The fact that Trump has lasted this long is a tribute to the lack of decency among Republicans in the House and Senate. And also to his own Cabinet and VP. Our Constitution provides two ways to rid ourselves of an unfit president: (1) Impeachment; (2) The 25th Amendment.

No reasonable, unbiased person could argue that Trump is emotionally, intellectually, and rationally fit to occupy the office of the presidency.

At the moment, Republicans fear getting rid of this malicious infection. They fear it because all they care about, all they have ever cared about, and all they ever will care about is reelection. It’s a disease shared by (almost) all politicians.

But back to Trump. No crystal ball is needed to let us know that Robert Mueller’s investigation will reveal enough to demolish Trump, the Trump Brand, his cohorts, and perhaps even some members of his family. Not to mention what will be revealed about the activities of Putin’s government and the collusion by some Americans with those activities.

I really don’t understand how pundits can discuss “Trump 2020” without cracking up and choking on their own giggles. Make no mistake about it. This horrible man will be gone long before the next presidential election rolls around. (And, yeah. We’ll be stuck with “I stand by the president” Pence.)

Perhaps the full extent of Mueller’s findings will appear this year or next year. But enough will be leaked by reporters to let America know that we are being ruled by a criminal administration. At which point the Republican Party will have no choice but to rid the country of Trump.

Then again, perhaps they won't rid the country of Trump. After all, they've gerrymandered enough of the country that they don't have to worry much about staying in control.

But either way, they won't want to have anything to do with Trump.

Bottom line: There will be no “TRUMP 2020” unless he runs as an independent backed by the KKK, and/or Neo-Nazis, and/or some other deplorable misfits.

I think he runs for re-election and loses.

Who knows, maybe Mueller will ultimately be his downfall, but it's not something I'm counting on. For over two years, people have been saying "Oh, Trump can't hang on much longer!" and he always does. Until he goes down for good, I won't assume that he's on his way out.

lasting till 2020 is MUCH easier than winning the election. Of course, by 2020, USA will be a very different country so no one can predict the outcome. Any kind of investigations take years and findings can only be used to initiate impeachemnt that in itself is a long process with virtually zero chance of succeeding with current congress.

2018 is not looking good, dems don't vote much in midterms and political apathy runs deep. Our party has no clear leadership or final platform just over a year from midterms. I won't be surprised if rethugs will increase their majorities next year.

Only one thing can help - collpasing economy like in 2008. That will affect the swing states big time so they'll vote for dems decidedly.

I do.

As long as Trump signs the bills that the uber-wealthy want, repubs will stick by him, no matter what.

To force him out you need impeachment (not getting through the Senate), the 25th Amendment (not getting through the Cabinet, House, or Senate), or his death (KFC probably makes this the most likely). Resignation is possible when he no longer enjoys the office, but I really worry about him going quietly rather than starting wars as diversions or just screwing over everybody on his enemies list in an orgy of revenge.

Now, when the 2020 election rolls around, that's another question. The only reason the Democrats couldn't win in 2020 by running Bozo the Clown is that he'll already be running as the incumbent.

8. the way things are going, Trump will last until 2020 and win re-election if he runs

as another poster mentioned, 2018 looks bad for Democrats. we do not have our shit together and our turnout in mid-term elections is weak even when it isn't actively suppressed. i wouldn't place any big bets on winning back the gerrymandered-as-all-fuck house and we'll be damn lucky to hold our minority seat count in the senate. frankly, seems to me we could lose seats in both houses.

once again, following up on remarks by another poster, by 2020, this nation will be a much different place. if the 2016 election taught me anything, it's "don't count on the old coalitions sticking together". the big unions are dying, while motivations of hope, pride, and mutual respect are displaced by those of fear, blame, and recrimination. barring a serious economic collapse of some sort, i don't see how Democrats get enough of a margin to win national elections at this point.
