Munchkin and his wife were not alone on top of Fort Knox viewing eclipse

CREW wants to know more about the little fashion flaunting trip:

WASHINGTON ― An ethics watchdog group is investigating whether Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and his wife, actress Louise Linton, planned a government trip to view the solar eclipse on Monday, the same trip on which Linton created controversy after flaunting the couple’s extravagant lifestyle on social media.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) on Wednesday filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act to obtain “records concerning authorization for and the costs of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s use of a government plane to travel to Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday, August 21, accompanied by his wife Louise Linton.”

That day, Mnuchin appeared at an event with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in Louisville, and then traveled to Fort Knox to tour the famed U.S. Army gold depository.

Citing a report from the Louisville Courier-Journal, which noted that Mnuchin and Linton also went there to view the eclipse, CREW alleges that the couple may have planned the trip around the eclipse and used the government plane for personal purposes.

“At a time of expected deep cuts to the federal budget, the taxpayers have a significant interest in learning the extent to which Secretary Mnuchin has used government planes for travel in lieu of commercial planes, and the justification for that use,” the group said in explaining the FOIA request.

as far as I'm concerned, the KGOP republican greedheads should back away from our gold. I just don't trust having them anywhere near it. Are they going to ship our gold to russia to pay off the massive debts incurred by Comrade Casino, their ignoble, golf-goofy Draft-Dodger-in-Chief?

That might be one way to get the ravenous, gimlet-eyed russian money-mobster bear off the backs of the republican party and their "leadership" - but it sucks. Let the record show that, if any republican nutwankers suggest such a foul plot, I object.

Seriously??? How vulgar.

Makes me ill that any of these people are at Fort Knox because an authoritarian govt would be stealing bars of gold.

Are even blatant by average crooked Republican standards. They stand on top of the US Gold deposit to watch the eclipse but taxpayers footing the bill have such "cute little lives" that they have no idea how much these grifters contribute compared to them.

And only abolished since '81. Maybe France would be interested in dusting one off and gifting it to America.

They could donate it to the Smithsonian, and we'll polish it up real nice.
We can even sharpen the blade.

Sayuz they viewed the eclipse on the lawn of Fort Knox.

It turns out that Mnuchin did view the eclipse while he was in Kentucky: Just outside the path of totality, from the lawn of the nation’s fabled Fort Knox, home to nearly $200 billion in American gold, according to an aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

A post on McConnell’s official Facebook page, attributed to the senator, said Thursday that he and Mnuchin viewed the eclipse from the roof. “The U.S. Department of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and I in front of the main door to the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox before we viewed the #solareclipse from the rooftop today,” said the posting, which featured an image of the two men, McConnell holding eclipse glasses.

After media reports about the Facebook post, including in this story, the Treasury Department said in a statement that the viewing was from the lawn.

“The Mint staff had originally suggested that the delegation watch the eclipse from the roof but the Secretary specifically canceled that part of the tour. They watched it briefly from outside before they entered (prior to the actual time of full eclipse),” the statement said.

McConnell’s office has revised its Facebook page to remove the reference to the rooftop and declined to say how the error was made.

It was vitally important to the nation's financial security for the Treasury Secretary, his wife, and the Senate Majority Leader to go to Fort Knox on August 21 and no other day, and it had nothing to do with any dumb ol' eclipse, either. Now, let's talk about something that's totally important and not a made-up controversy at all: Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch having a 20 minute social visit in Phoenix.

Oh, and taxpayers? Here's your bill for this little jaunt. Whoops, I mean this vitally important cabinet business!
