Is Trump smart?

Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large
Updated 7:45 PM ET, Thu August 24, 2017

... A new Quinnipiac University national poll showed that 55% of Americans think Trump is intelligent while 43% say he is not.

Which is interesting. But not nearly as interesting as how rapidly the number of people who think Trump is smart has dropped since November 2016. In a November 22 Quinnipiac poll -- two weeks to the day after the election -- 74% said Trump was "intelligent" while just 21% said he was not.

That number has steadily declined over Trump's first 7 months in office. By March it had dipped into the high 50s and its continued to fall steadily ...

... the numbers -- and the rapid drop in them -- are interesting and telling. Take, for example, the fact that 42% of Democrats said Trump was intelligent in January and only 25% say that now. Or that 70% of independents called Trump "intelligent" in January, but only 55% say so now ...

And also intelligence to business success.

I'm not making excuses and I think he's a complete asshole. But is he intelligent enough to have made it from a weird playboy real estate mogul to President? I guess so. Is he stupid and ignorant? absolutely.

I am constantly astounded by the utter stupidity of some of my clients that live in million dollar homes.

I am convinced that often success is dictated by a lack of morals and willingness to exploit others for your own gain. Certainly not always but often.

that had a PhD in mathematics from a top college. This was 2006/2007, so during the Bush years. Brilliant guy when it came to math - I'm pretty good at math myself, but this guy could do complex stuff in his head that I'd need spreadsheets to do. However, when it came to politics, he'd believe the shit that came out of Fox New hook, line and sinker and thought everybody else had a big liberal bias. When a more moderate Republican co-worker said, "I'm a Republican, but even I know Fox News is biased," the guy's response was something like, "Well, if Fox News is biased, everybody else is more biased the other way!"

I don't even think he's car salesman smart. A smart car salesman has to be able to read the person he's trying to sell to and adjust accordingly. Trump has no ability (at least none demonstrated so far) to tailor his message to his audience. He hit on (or was handed) a winning formula that he just keeps hammering. He can't read the signs and know when to adjust. He's incapable of focusing on anyone but himself.

even W Bush was treated differently . yet with Trump they never went there. there was no "what do you read" type questions .

and the fact is both Palin and W Bush are more intelligent than Trump.

Can't tell because unlike other presidents who are somewhat scholarly, (even W has an MBA from Harvard) this guy has been a tabloid star since the 70s. It is hard to gauge his intelligence, but he isn't stupid. I estimate Rick Perry's IQ to be 110.

and you read his tweets, there is no way you could possibly consider him a smart...person.

No smarter than the people who voted for him, most definitely.

And that's an incredibly dangerous thing to have in a President, worse than stupid.. W had a much better grasp on how the whole thing works. That should scare the shit out of anyone.
