"SNIP...........

Rachel Maddow last night (Wed. Aug. 23) continued to pursue a story which, strangely, has so far seen little further action on the part of the MSM….namely, that the contents of the infamous “Dossier” of negative research about Donald Trump may soon be exposed to public view. And I am about to argue, there is a tantalizing hint that part of Trump’s success in winning the GOP nomination may have been hacked information about his own GOP opponents. More on that in a moment.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has just spent TEN HOURS interviewing Glenn Simpson, a former WSJ reporter who was head of a company called Fusion GPS. Fusion was apparently commissioned by a group of wealthy Republicans to dig up damaging opposition research on Donald Trump as part of an effort to block Trump from becoming the GOP Presidential nominee.

......

David Corn wrote a blockbuster article about the existence of the dossier and its rumored contents for Mother Jones:

Mother Jones has reviewed that report and other memos this former spy wrote. The first memo, based on the former intelligence officer’s conversations with Russian sources, noted, “Russian regime has been cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years. Aim, endorsed by PUTIN, has been to encourage splits and divisions in western alliance.” It maintained that Trump “and his inner circle have accepted a regular flow of intelligence from the Kremlin, including on his Democratic and other political rivals.” It claimed that Russian intelligence had “compromised” Trump during his visits to Moscow and could “blackmail him.” It also reported that Russian intelligence had compiled a dossier on Hillary Clinton based on “bugged conversations she had on various visits to Russia and intercepted phone calls.”

right or left might be someone they'd want to neutralize. Didn't matter how they came to acquire that suspicion. Putin seems cold and calculating. To him it must have seemed almost a joke to use Trump -- the ultimate embodiment of the evils of America-- as a way to stick it to the US.

I find it plausible that Putin's peeps poisoned the well whenever possible. The propaganda branch worked overtime smearing politicians and destroying political careers.

besides Dems. Also it says many times that Putin hated and feared HRC, and wanted Trump in place because they'd been working together for quite some time, and although Russians had "kompromat" on Drumph, they didn't need to use it because it was working with them so willingly. Putin was also pissed about sanctions over Ukrains and felt Trump would be less likely to enforce them. Finally, Kremlin thought that all their HRC bashing would cause her to be ineffective were she to win.
