Roger Stone, one of President Trumps oldest and most-trusted advisers, warned that any politician who voted to impeach Donald Trump will endanger their own life.
Stone began by taunting members of Congress who were calling for Trumps impeachment. Try to impeach him, just try it!, Stone exclaimed. He then promised that, if Trump was impeached, there would be a violent, armed response.- Think Progress
Things must be looking dire for 45 and his inner circle of loyalists.

Pretty sure several divisions worth of armed men will make that not happen.

I think that's why they keep spouting about dire repercussions for others that don't agree with their idiocy, pebble wouldn't last 30 seconds in a fistfight, one opened handed slap and he'd throw in the towel.
When faced with payback these types always curl up in a ball whimpering.

Methinks Roger Stone needs to be a little more careful about his language, for his own sake.

(8,225 posts)It is at least possible that Charlottesville will at some point by comparison seem like a cakewalk. These things happen elsewhere around the world.
However Mr. Stone is confused if he thinks it is a reason to avoid impeachment. It is actually a reason that doing it becomes more essential.
Armed rebellion is destructive toward civil rights in Democracy. The greater extent to which what Mr. Stone states is true, the more imperative bringing this to an abrupt end becomes.
It is my greatest hope that there is no violence and that the tradition of a peaceful transition power remains intact. This peaceful transition of power is the genius of the American experiment in self-government. I hope it is not destroyed, or at minimum, that it is quickly restored.

(118,379 posts)I'll support your right to free speech, but when I conclude you're actually trying to promote violence against your opponents, inside or outside the government, I'll shift my stance instantly
I've spent years trying to further my ideals by peaceful methods, and I currently plan to continue doing that for as long as I can, because violence seems to me a sucky way to settle political differences
But if you want to insist on violence, then you might move me (and a lot of others) down the road in a rather different direction, one step at a time
A violent response to legitimate political process is, in my view, an attempt to overthrow the government by force, and I would expect it to be met with appropriate criminal charges. But if appropriate criminal charges fail, then I'm sure we'll find quite a number of people willing to arm themselves and fight to defend our ideals and institutions against the violence-advocates like yourself
At present, I'll simply regard your comments as contemptible blather and I'll consider it your right to utter your nonsense, as such tolerance has long sustained our democracy
On the other hand, if -- heaven forbid! -- the situation deteriorates badly, and we notice people like you, Roger, behind continuing political violence, finding ourselves without an effective legal remedy against you, then in that (still very hypothetical) future: you may want to travel with a body guard; and you may want to avoid open places where distant snipers might get a clear shot at you; and you may want to regularly check under your car for explosives and you may want to constantly look behind yourself to see who's around; and you may want to sleep with one eye open; and you may want to avoid any obvious daily routines; and you may want to take various other precautions -- because we will not allow our ideals and institutions to be destroyed by thugs without resistance
