(1,201 posts)I was referring to all those people who did not vote and just didn't care to due to lack of enthusiasm to now get involved with the democratic party's "Better Deal" because there is so much to be enthused about and you infer I'm a troll. Something must be wrong with your understanding.

(86,918 posts)I think the gig is up and we are doomed regardless of whatever we might accomplish from this point onward. The election was illegally manipulated and those who have the power to make the changes we should be engaging don't have the guts to do it.. probably because they have a red spot on their temples and those of their family members. It's a nasty game, political power, and it will be the end of us all in the not so distant future.
For some reason I was born into this time, I don't want to see what's coming but I get the feeling I'll be around to be part of the cleanup crew. Not looking forward to it except for the desire to get it over with so that whomever is left can go forward.

Just watching him try to run this country, it's easy to see why many of his businesses failed and surely why he keeps his tax returns hidden. And, he has a lot of supporters that really are deplorable. We're on the edge.

Your profile indicates you have been here since 2001. DID YOU EVEN READ THE TOS? That we support Democratic candidates in the general elections has been part of the TOS for over a decade.
As for you're argument, "we may need you one day", NO. YOU WEREN'T THERE in 2016 when the Supreme Court, the Environment, Civil Rights, Women's Rights, workers rights, Social Security, Medicare, etc. were at stake, so frankly, we need that kind of support like a f**king hole in the head.

"Democratic Underground is an online community for friendly, politically liberal people who understand the importance of working together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government."
"Members are not expected to hold across-the-board progressive opinions on every single issue, but we do expect members to be generally progressive and to support Democrats at election time"
------
FWIW, the DNC (Democratic National Committee) is primarily a fundraising organization. . Does not write the platform. Organizes and puts on the national convention.
It isn't the Democratic Party, that's made up of Democratic voters, politicians, local Organizers etc.
DU is not affiliated with either the Democratic Party or DNC

(11,940 posts)Have voted for the orange turd (or any of the other R candidates), but DU does feel like a hostile environment at times, even almost a year after the election. I've been a member since just after the 2004 election, so I've seen lots of crap thrown around. Sometimes you have to ignore it and wade through all the attempts at "stirring" that still go on. Maybe some of the stirrers who were banished have rejoined under new aliases.
As for the election, yup, I believe it was a planned coup, long in the works, and the Rs (Repubs, Rich 1%, and Russians) all found their Manchurian candidates. I DO think that he is not as controllable as they thought he would be, and the Repubs may not have been aware of the extent of Trump & Cos Russian ties at the very beginning. Yup, I believe either Bernie, Hillary, or Biden would have been 1000% better for America and the whole world. I felt of the 3 that Bernie would have had more cross-over appeal. I have seen extreme hatred and vehemence exclaimed over the Clinton name and Biden over the years. It's surprising, a shame, and boggles minds that people can't seem to vote for their best interest simply due to spite and an unhinged hatred.

(7,548 posts)I voted for her in the general election only as (IMO) the lesser of two poor choices. In short, I find it difficult to support many of the candidates that the Democratic party has fielded in recent years (decades). All they seem to be able to do is enable the despoilers of the World. Just for the record, when I went to caucus, I was treated quite badly by many of the HRC supporters I encountered there. Not trying to rehash the primary here, but you might want to take a look at the scoreboard first next time you advocate chasing people away. Just my two cents and if you have a problem with me expressing that here you're probably a fascist and just don't realize it.

(1,671 posts)OK, my post counts here are small. I dont post very many places since 2005. I dont like the troll culture, and it has used the free speech argument to pollute and degrade the society since at least 2003 (from a personal ethnology perspective: Can we stake them out in a field and wait for sunrise?) That said Ive been reading here since 2002, its the first place I visit in the morning. If the people here are incensed I visit TPM and Crooks and Liars to see if theyre bent too. DU is my bellwether
I may not entirely like HRC, and actually I supported BS (unfortunate initials) in the primary, but in the general election you had a choice, and Im sorry no matter how you sugarcoat it the choice was this, "Do you vote for the status quo, flawed as it may be, or do you opt to let the apparent fascist win?"
Not voting for the status quo with all its flaws was a tacit vote for the apparent fascist. I say apparent because at the time he was limiting himself to fascist curious behaviors. He never really came out against the fascists, but he didnt say anything negative either. Im seldom adopt Manichean positions on things, but this was a case that you either voted for HRC or you accepted a proto-fascist leader. There really isnt much room to wiggle out here.
At our district caucus, there was another Bernie supporter who said that she wouldnt vote for HRC. I told here that in our state that might be a safe decision, but in general for an essentially binary system like ours a non-HRC vote would be a vote for the opposition. She gave me a disgusted look and walked off. My 25-year-old son said, Thats why well lose.
So, I dont want to say you cant come here, but I am going to ask was it worth it?

(19,569 posts)It's a private website where we work toward electing more Democrats and currently bemoan the lunacy of the fringe takeover of the GOP. If you're not happy with the constraints of the site, that's ok. No one is going to hold your personal convictions against DU against you in the actual Democratic Party. However, DUers will hold your protest vote against you here. See? Not the same entities?
I've never understood people equating DU with the Democratic Party. It's just silliness. People need to stop twisting themselves into knots trying to link the two as one. They're just not even close to the same entity!
I work with people like you and we reach out to non voters, youth coming of age to vote for the first time and even marginal Republicans. By the time I come here just want to relax, recharge and regain my focus. What I don't want is to have to deal with more angry protest voters on their freaking soapboxes about how they were safe, morally right, making a stand against the system. I'm over that excuse X a million!
For what it's worth, I live in Texas and here protest voters like yourself (I've dealt with on a personal level) have been saying they were in a safe blue district/city, so it didn't matter. Um, no, that's not how it works in a GE, and I'm the person who has to explain all that to them. Seriously, what the fuck? I'm so over it I can't even begin to express to you how sick of this foolishness I am. Yet I'm still polite and work at being educational to them.
So, all the reindeer games are just childish to me. None of those playing games know what they're talking about from another person's perspective, and none of the people playing these games care to actually step outside their bubble where they're reinforced and safe and explore another perspective they're not familiar with already. Everything is as they see it through their private lens.

They should ask for a major mea culpa from everyone here.
They must tell us who they voted for or if they stayed home in General.
They must tell us that they now know that Hillary would have made a better President in every possible way than Trump.
Then, they should be on super secret probation lest they lapse into their previous ways.
