Debt Ceiling Dummies

Here's a common statement by dumdshits regarding raising the debt ceiling...

"They shouldn't raise it. American families need to live within a budget and so should the government".

First of all, equating the raising of the debt ceiling with raising what you can spend on a credit card is asinine.

Second, most families do not live within a budget. Most are in debt whether it be credit card, mortgage, or whatever.

The government doesn't operate the same as a household budget and has to pay for a bunch of stuff that people don't have to like, say, a (bloated) military and Secret Service, etc. And of course, as you pointed out, almost every household (unless you happen to be filthy rich and can pay cash for everything) runs on credit/debt to some degree. And it's not like the idiots wailing over the debt ceiling are making things easier for us.
