(
To understand the building outrage, particularly among civil rights groups, over the possibility that President Donald Trump would pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, one need only return to the July criminal contempt decision against him.
It followed a decade-long case against the sheriff for racial-profiling practices in Arizona, during which Arpaio was ordered to stop targeting Latinos for traffic stops and detention.
"Not only did (Arpaio) abdicate responsibility, he announced to the world and to his subordinates that he was going to continue business as usual no matter who said otherwise," wrote US District Judge Susan Bolton in the July 31 order finding Arpaio guilty of criminal contempt.

(67,112 posts)gang of haters that flaunting the law and kicking around Latinos is just part of the good old American way. If Arpaio is pardoned, the US will lose even more international respect if there is any to lose.

It Trump pardons him it is because he believes racism and bigotry is acceptable.

(3 posts)Doesn't apply to republicans is one of the most troubling aspect of the last couple decades for me.
This is another feature similar to Nazi Germany during the '30's along with racism. Remember how McCain and Cruz said they would not confirm ANY Supreme Court nominee if Clinton was elected? That and refusing to consider Obama's nominee indicated for me a serious failure of government. We may as well have one party rule, right?

(35 posts)Good riddance to the sheriff who made it common practice to:
Torture people, sometimes to death or until they were crippled. Including people who were awaiting trial. (see Deborah Braillard, note that it is somewhat common to for police to kill diabetics by denying them insulin.)
Hot boxing (a form of torture)
Smash up cars
Burn down houses
Kill dogs (sometimes by locking them in burning houses)
Pepper spraying puppies in cages
I did not expect him to go without a fight. He does have a private army in addition to his deputies.

And one incident each does not make common practice
Could you send me a PM Lunatica?

(7,645 posts)That would be Roy Moore, the sanctimonious Xian nut job it looks like will be their new Senator there.
Trump is every bit as bad in encouraging this attack on the rule of law.
I hope every judge in the US takes note of this disrespect and slight to their co-equal branch of government when it comes to the Trump DOJ court cases they care so much about.
