(34,123 posts)I'm not sure whether he cares about the period (the only difference I can see is that there is a period in the second recitation, but not the first).

(50,254 posts)They won because of that, and because Neil Kinnock, in moving the party so drastically and painfully to the right from where it was in 1987, created a lot of distrust among the voters-a lot of them wondered if it was wise to give power to somebody who abandoned that many lifetime convictions in a heartbeat.
I mean, yes, Labour was still different than the Tories-much more so than in 1997, when everything recognizably "Labour" had been stripped from the party program-but Kinnock invested far too much effort in suppressing internal party democracy. silencing debate and dissent and driving actual socialists out of the party, when he SHOULD have focused on making a stronger case for Labour's existing program than he did in 1987.
After all that, I suspect the voters came to the conclusion that Kinnock stood for nothing but trying to win an election for the SAKE of trying to win an election. He'd reduced the party's vision from social transformation to making the nastiness slightly less nasty. There was nothing radical in the '92 program at all, and as 1997 proved, Labour without radicalism or socialism was worth next to nothing.

(3,734 posts)now that the bar has been lowered even further for trumpie, his stooges will go on all the cable news show proclaiming how trumpie is showing great insight and leadership and is helping the country heal, blah blah blah.
Textbook case of lowering the bar, then coming back with a token gesture and having the stooges fall over themselves with praise. The guy who continually brings home straight Fs on his report card is now going to be celebrated for bring home a D-. Put it on the fridge with a magnet.

Then an hour later...
Saw an authority figure, the Boston Police commissioner, praise the protesters, tweeted that.
I was watching all afternoon and his tweets follow "watching the news and tweeting" (like a child) perfectly. Also even the commentators on MSNBC noted the same obvious pattern. He's that kid in your mom's basement.
