(14,093 posts)They've got to feel like prize jack-asses marching along to that; and there's nothing they can do about it.

(45 posts)I don't think it's worth giving them the satisfaction. Preparing for self-defense is obviously fine, but otherwise don't give in to provocation, because at this stage they need violence and feed off it. I'd bet nobody pays attention to a rally attended by 50 people, until fights start breaking out. I don't think the violence with counter-protesters deter ralliers. They use it to recruit, bill themselves as martyrs, achieve airtime. Morons will buy it, and morons also get the vote.

(21,646 posts)Maybe these counter protesters don't even like cake and prefer to come outside and pay some attention to what's happening in their neighborhood and be seen as against Nazis in person.
Buttercream or whipped and only so many different fillings to choose from .

(45 posts)I think the counter-protest is great and absolutely necessary; I've not yet been to where the rally is being held; I'm just hoping when the two groups meet, it stays peaceful.

(81,566 posts)She said "she saw 20 trump supporters" - TWENTY. Not twenty hundred. Not twenty thousand. TWENTY. Versus probably 20,000 or more counter protesters opposing the Nazi/white supremacy/racist gathering that had been scheduled. It was such a startling observation that anchor Alex Witt questioned the reporter directly - "I just wanted to double-check - you said 'TWENTY'?" And the reporter confirmed that.
Less than 200, Witt now says. Even so. She just repeated the exchange with she'd had before the commercial break - confirming that the Boston.com reporter did indeed say she saw "20 protesters" showing up to press their "free speech rights" to be fucking goddamn racists and Klanners - compared to the literal thousands of counter protesters on the side of The Light.
On edit - I just played that clip of the tuba player tailing a small ragtag group of Nazi jerks on their way to their "right to be assholes" protest. HILARIOUS!!! I was laughing out loud!
