Overruling higher minimum wage laws, preventing removal of confederate statues, and threatening sanctuary cities. Maybe also the prevention of community internet.
Can you think of other examples?
There was a time when big cities held all the power. Gerrymandering, ALEC, and unlimited money from conservative PACs have changed that.
We need a countercurrent push from the democrats on the topic of local control. Republicans pretend to be in favor of local control, but they've begun using it to tie the hands in even the most basic responsibilities of government.

attempt to roll back / eliminate the 1% city income tax in STLMO for all workers who worked in STLMO
roll back of animal rights legislation statewide, MO, heavily supported by urban populations
right to work laws in MO (a lot of unions in big cities)
no help in attracting sports franchises to city from state (cities most logical place to put large stadiums)
no help in attracting police new hires, state is now finally helping city patrol a couple of interstates
I'm sure I can come up w/ more things, this is a good suggestion on your part, that they are too many attempts by state-wide legislations to control large urban populations...

(2,857 posts)These were used in Alabama and sent to every voter during this recent Senate vote. No forward order on the card, so if you had moved you did not get the card. It was returned to the state and you were purged, even if you moved from one apartment to another across the street. People don't think about changing their voter registration if they made a minor move.
Mo Brooks who is one of our district reps was purged and he was actually running in the race, coming in 3rd, LOL!
Patricia Todd was purged and she is our only openly gay state rep. I think her wife was also purged.
It's not funny, but it is in a way because of Brooks.
