I've been following Rick Wilson on twitter. He does a periscope regularly; he's live and you can ask questions etc. Last night, he went on a rant about how much of a racist Trump is and he mentioned a man by the name of Stuart Spooner. He recommended all democrats read his twitter feed. Basically, Spooner is saying this: dems would be smart to focus MORE on the Nazi and KKK angle and less on the statues. Old time southerners don't want to hear about how they were wrong to erect the statues. We get more mileage by condemning the Nazi and KKK movement and focusing on why they are flourishing under Trump. I agree.

I don't think anyone is focusing on the statutes -- other than they are a symbol of hatred -- except ignorant white wing racists.

(175 posts)That may be the case but I've seen way too many people on FB denouncing the statues and getting into cultural wars with southerners.

I've gotten myself in trouble where I live suggesting that the world's largest confederate memorial should be sandblasted and replaced by a memorial to people who were treated like dirt by the Klansmen that owned the mountain at the time the carving began and who held freuent rallies on the mountain even during my lifetime.

Only 25% of all voters want statues removed.
Whereas support for the White Nationalists, KKK is virtually zero for all parties.
