I keep hearing that the GOP is against all extremist groups.
I am a member of an "extremist group": I believe in universal health care.
I'm also a feminist, an athiest, a unionist, a choice voter, and a divorcee: all groups the GOP rejects.
This "extremist" label is way too close to their favorite insult: "special interest group." That's a dog whistle for anything other than white , capitalist, married, straight, christian, republican men. That's how they frame their bigotry, by making white , capitalist, married, straight, christian, republican men the default "us." Everyone else is "Them." And that's who the gop is against: "Them."
"Extremist" is only a qualifier: It denotes volume of furvor or actions suggested. It refers to no specific value what-so-ever.
I could be called an extremist worker: I've worked since I was in college. I am an extremist parent: I love my children every day I am on this planet. I could not love them more.
Well, there's one more label I'd like to claim as my own: I am an extremist liberal. I believe we should live up to our country's creed: To treat everyone equally. I am extremely dedicated to the equality of all people.
Our national anthem starts and ends with questions: "Oh say can you see?" and "Oh, say does that star spangled banner yet wave o're the land of the free and the home of the brave.?"
The question originally asked who's flag still flew over the port of Baltimore in 1814. Now, it asks if we are all free.
That question was answered this week: YES! We are all free, even if some minorities, or parties, wish it weren't so.

Liberalism is under attack from extremists on both sides.
