Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTaylor Swift took a fearless and heroic stand...this is NOT "celebrity news."
She stood her ground and refused to be bullied, refuse to allow the man who assaulted her to become the "victim."
YES, she is a "celebrity."
NO, this is NOT "celebrity news."
In a world where Donald Trump brags about "getting away with it" because he's "famous," this dramatically changes the tone, and she is to be applauded for her courage, strength, and tenacity during the hearing.
When McFarland suggested that Swift should be critical of her bodyguard for not stepping in and stopping the alleged assault, she responded: Im critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass.
When McFarland showed the photo of Mueller allegedly grabbing Swift from behind, he asked why the front of her dress wasnt out of place if what she said took place actually happened. Swift said: Because my ass is located in the back of my body.
When asked about Muellers firing after the incident and her role in it, she said: I am not going to allow your client to make me feel like it is any way my fault because it isnt, also adding, he and you are suing me and Im being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions, not mine.
When it was suggested that perhaps someone other than Mueller had groped her, Swift shot back: He had a handful of my ass. I know it was him.

(62,477 posts)I know little of Taylor Swift, but I have daughters and when needed I hope they get justice.
Seeing brave women like Ms. Swift gives me hope.

(44,583 posts)A hand or pat on the ass ON your clothes is improper enough, of course. But she's insisting that he stuck her hand up under her skirt and that she was too stunned to as much as give him a dirty look. And after that business with "Kim-Ye", credibility isn't her strong point.

I've been sexually assaulted myself. I could imagine myself freezing under those circumstances.
I can't believe I am about to type this on DU.
A victim don't have to push or punch or even scream "NO" at the top of their lungs to make unsolicited sexual contact an assault.
There was no consent given, therefore it is sexual assault.
Victims of sexual assault sometimes freeze up when it happens. This is a well studied, well known phenomenon. It doesn't imply consent or that it never happened. I sincerely hope you read the below link, but I'll include an important quote for you.
"Freezing occurs when the amygdala a crucial structure in the brains fear circuitry detects an attack and signals the brainstem to inhibit movement. It happens in a flash, automatically and beyond conscious control."

Kim-Ye has nothing to do with that man grabbing her ass and to bring it up here serves no purpose beyond attacking the credibility of a victim of a sexual assault.
Bottom line is, you weren't there. She was.

(44,583 posts)In view of the photographic evidence that she herself has presented, I would be less than a feminist to blindly award her my moral outrage without at least considering the possibility that this might be deja vu all over again.

(455 posts)At some point in their lives, every fucking human being lies. Saying you love the ugly sweater Nana and Popop gave you when you were 6, saying you are fine when you aren't just because you don't want to impose emotionally on someone, social media feuds... it doesn't matter if the lie is good or bad, it's part of our toolkit for social interaction as a species. If Swift had a long history of false rape or sexual assault accusations, you might have an argument to make here but that isn't the case.
RAINN estimates that every 98 seconds, someone in the US is sexually assaulted. Out of every 1000 assault and batteries, only 627 are reported to police. Only 105 make it to prosecutors. Rapekits go untested in our country for YEARS. Women from across the socioeconomic and political spectrum are blamed for their assaults, their social lives scrutinized over and over again to find ANY perceived slight or mistake which can reduce or minimize the fact that it's happening.
You also did in fact attack her credibility based on your perceived notions of how a victim would act. When presented with the science, you back yourself up with petty celebrity drama as proof he couldn't have grabbed her butt.
From one feminist to another, you are perpetuating rape culture whether you realize it or not.

She's not looking for a DIME here. HE is suing HER because he got fired. This isn't about jail...he's a pig and his OWN BOSS found TS sufficiently credible to FIRE his trifling grabby ass.
In any event the judge agreed with Taylor. Not you.
Now his only hope is to try and squeeze a few cents outta her momma.

(44,583 posts)The jury also ruled Taylor's mother and staff did not intentionally interfere with Mueller's employment. As we reported ... Tay filed her $1 countersuit against the former DJ on principle.
Taylor was in court to hear the verdict. She hugged her mom and her attorneys. As for her mom ... she cried.
Taylor just issued this statement, "I want to thank Judge William J. Martinez and the jury for their careful consideration ... [my attorneys] and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support through this four-year ordeal..."
Taylor went on, "I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves."
I never believed that she wasn't improperly touched, just that she was not touched in the way she described.
