Last year, before the election, they actually printed an article claiming Hillary Clinton was morbidly obese (and hiding it ... somehow).

(12,648 posts)do so. The bar is higher for a person who's put themselves into the public eye than it is for purely private persons. The example you cited might very well cross that bar.
But your complaint was about "falsehoods", and for that, without defamation, there's no remedy.
