It's a major segment of their base. Those are the people who stayed home in 2008 and 2012 and didn't vote for McCain or Romney. They need those votes to win.

Those people are the "base" of the Republican Party. Most elected Republicans are frightened to death about losing those votes, so they avoid condemning such people. In the end, it may be just that that costs them their phony baloney jobs. One can only hope.

It was exactly why they feigned such offense at them being properly labelled as "Deplorables" last year. Americans who voted for and remain supporters of Trump and the GOP have declared their intentions and allegiance and they are the enemy, period.
