Ive spent time in Republican politics and with Republican leaders, and Republican leaders tend not to speak out against racism in America, unless its some disastrous situation like this, and then they come out.
The reason why they dont do that and I know because ive been a part of it, Ive seen it myself is that theres a taboo within the Republican Party about attacking racism in America There is an element of the Republican base that is racist, and our leaders are afraid to stand up to them because, if they do so, theyll be criticized, and theyll potentially lose votes.

How the fuck do Republicans think that saying what's been obvious for decades is something brave or principled?
Weasel words from weak people who spent a career enabling white supremecy do not impress anyone.

(9,426 posts)they made their contempt of President Obama obvious immediately. On the very night he was inaugurated for the first time, the "leaders" like McConnell, McCain, Ryan, Lard-Ass Gingrich and others held a meeting and vowed to block EVERYTHING President Obama tried to do. McConnell said "My number one job is to make sure he is a one term president" Ol' chinless Mitch FAILED there, too. Now we have the worst person in the WH EVER and McConnell still says "Well, at least we do not have Hillary Clinton in the WH" These bastards do not represent average citizens, they are in it to enrich themselves and they do not care who knows it. Sadly, people are still dumb enough to vote gop. Take a good look, and listen to tRump, he is their example of a president!!!

From the Senate were Tom Coburn, Bob Corker, Jim DeMint, John Ensign and Jon Kyl. Others present were former House Speaker and future and failed presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and the Republican strategist Frank Luntz, who organised the dinner and sent out the invitations.

(22,919 posts)He voted for Clinton over Trump. There are some others of course including the man quoted by this OP, but he nailed it. Non racist Republicans are afraid of angering racist voters.

(1,336 posts)why does he continue within the Republican Party? You are identified by the company you keep. Of course, he may indeed have visions of grandeur (aka completely changing the GOP from within) but I suspect his visions are merely pipe dreams.

Does that count?
Not all republicans are racist, but every racist I've encountered over the last 40 years or so was a republican.

I know it is hard to cut to that nuance, but racism isn't the personal vice the republican party caters to - their "tent" enables bigotry, homophobia, facism and authoritarianism, religious biases ...
Most republicans are truly decent people, who get pulled in by the victimization element or something else and go along with the bullshit cause they get told how perfect they are while stroking their sense of victimhood.
