If he is pardoned he can still be made to testify and he cannot take the fifth.

That's how I see Trump's "thinking" on something like this. It's all about himself.

with obstruction of justice. And I'm pretty sure it would also remove manaforts fifth amendment protections and he would be forced to testify.

If he thinks pardoning Manafort will keep him from testifying against Trump, he'll do it. The only thing Donald Trump cares about is himself.
