"Donald Trump is seriously sick. He is dangerous," read Humphreys letter, which he shared with news station WMUR on Wednesday.
"As a citizen, former U.S. senator, and twelve-year member of the Armed Services Committee, I urge you to act [at] once. Donald Trump should be relieved of the powers of the presidency at the earliest date, the open letter from the former New Hampshire lawmaker added.

(51,615 posts)Maybe people should start calling and writing to Congress at their local (on vacation) offices and bringing this up at town halls along with Healthcare. This IS Resistance Summer after all. Then comes Resistance Back to School, then Resistance Autumn, ...I'm kidding.
Seriously, this has to be coming from the public in a unified and sustained effort.

(31,834 posts)Go to a local indivisible meeting and make the suggestion.
We've had a lot of progress on the issues we've targeted in our district with our congressman.
And - at least in my district - we are in the midst of the NJ 'Big Year' - Governor, assembly, Senate, town councils, etc. etc. A lot of our focus has now shifted to the General Election this November.
I'm hearing VA indivisible groups are in that same mode.
However, if you are not in one of those states who needs a strong governor to defend us from the Federal Government - this should be getting brought up at meetings in the next few days. I will put in on our agenda on Sunday and put it out for a consensus - but I have a feeling our tiny group isn't going to want to run with it. There's so much work to do even in our borough right now. We are down to only 3 months.

(51,615 posts)and it is like you said, they are focusing on local issues which is what they are supposed to do according to the Guide. I am glad they are so serious and steadfast as well as using their intelligence to plan and carry out their agendas. Changes have to start at the grass roots level (like the Tea Party did). I have ideas and have written to different Dem groups like MoveOn.org, Change.org, The Womens March organizers, etc. but can't get through to anyone with my emails. I don't have Facebook or Twitter so I am limited with who I can contact or organize.
I call Congress (a lot) and go to marches but I can't organize (my health isn't very good these days). If you can think of anything or anyone who can spread the word on a national level (like MoveOn) that would be great!

(31,834 posts)Move on is kind of 'old news'. Our Indivisible Group has weekly 'stand ins' at our House member's office. Our town halls have been featured on the national news.
I think we at the 'district level' indivisible are the ones that started the 'like' and 'dislike' signs at town halls.
National groups of the 90s and early aughts are not effective. They just aren't. They blog and tweet to death.
Indivisible is where it's at - and it's all about getting up in their grills!
Pls call Your elected employees: while THEY are on vacation, call/visit local offices & express Your thoughts. They need to be reminded they are the check & balance on executive branch, they have a Sacred DUTY to defend the US & Constitution;
the Mueller investigations must continue & elected officials fulfill their Constitutional obligations. Those who do NOT are not only failing as Patriots, but show they are complicit in the trump-rusky-republiker mob.
Thank You for Your post!

(23,135 posts)His party is almost as deep in the mud as he is and doesn't care about anything in the world other than holding onto the power they have stolen. They will whistle while the world is burning, talking about supporting the president while we burn and he declares military law, abrogating the constitution and press freedoms "while we're in an emergency state", that will somehow never cease.
We have to try, we have to get the momentum going.
But, 2018 is the last stand. This country needs to WTF up in a big way and rebuke Rs at the polls in a B I G way.
If not ...

(2,749 posts)Enough of us voted to elect such a despicable human being to lead our country that he succeeded.
Whats to say we won't do it again someday. Before November I would not have believed we could do it now, though I knew that we were way closer to electing such a man than I was comfortable with. Though not even half of us voted for him, it was enough. And they will use every available tool to make sure that their unfair advantage (especially gerrymandering and voter suppression) will only get worse. We cannot stop it. I think 2018 may be our last hope to turn things around.
But there is something about this country that is changing, and its not for the better.

(5,101 posts)I opened a thread in the french group. I share in a few thoughts and a point of view from Belgium.
I'll try to translate it with some help from people speaking better french than I speak english.
For casual, ordinary exchanges, I'm more or less decently speaking (with some great and hard spelling and grammar rules massacre )
But for a more specific subject that requires a more elaborate vocabulary, it is trickier.

(2,749 posts)I studied French in high school and 2 years in college, but that was some 4 decades ago. A few months back I started studying again through Babbel, but then got away from it.
So thanks for letting me know. I'm not fluent at all, but I can usually understand about 75% of what I read.

(2,749 posts)What a terrible time for our Party to be at its weakest point in my lifetime. I mean that only in the sense that we don't really have the power to do much to get rid of Trump without the help of those who are so morally compromised.

(570 posts)The west coast istates are well-known to be blue states, so if they're gone, it's strengthens the GOP's death grip on the rest of the country. Never mind that California has the sixth largest economy in the world.
Cynical? Absolutely! I'm on the west coast. If we actually make it through this and ole Donnie boy is still in the Whitehouse, I can't think of a better reason for the west coast states to secede and demand our share of the military and nukes based on the percent of the GDP we're responsible for.
