(9,901 posts)What I really want to check out is how they setup a battery switch out system. I can't believe they would attempt a recharge system for commercial duty.

(24,380 posts)Plenty of fleets leave trucks idle for extended periods.
A recharge station would be fine for companies that use their trucks only 12 hours a day

(9,901 posts)There is a benefit to be able to go a thousand miles between fuel stops.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)and am leaving Saturday for a trip from Florida to California and back, I can give perhaps a bit of insight.
When I drive long distances, it is always a team operation because of the nature of the cargo, so the truck is basically moving 22 hours a day In that case you would absolutely have to be able to change battery packs unless the technology allowed for full recharges in 20 minutes.
But the vast majority of over-the-road truckers are not teams, and as such are shut down for at least 10 hours every day. Putting charging stations in truckstops and rest areas would allow those drivers to charge while they slept.
So it isn't going to be a one size fits all solution, but it could certainly work in many situations.
