The Story So Far

Since Trump’s inauguration, he has been proven to have lied over 600 times (and counting), insulted our allies, accused his predecessor of a felony, appointed incompetent cronies to cabinet and advisory positions, and has disclosed classified information to our enemies.

His poll numbers have consistently gone down (and continue to tank), elected GOP reps have to hide from angry constituents, and not a single campaign promise has been fulfilled.

He requires his daily briefings to be delivered in a single page of bullet points, while he spend his days watching TV, tweeting incoherent nonsense, and golfing. His lack of knowledge about literally everything – from history, to science, to world events – is beyond staggering. His stupidity has made him the butt of jokes the world over, and global leaders – as well as many US leaders – have taken to ignoring him completely.

Our nation is no longer seen as the “leader of the free world”, and the global respect we once enjoyed is now all but non-existent.

He consistently takes credit for things he didn’t accomplish, and gets his information from known “fake news” websites and TV networks, while dismissing respected journalists as liars when they report incontrovertible facts.

His ego is such that he demands daily reports of any positive news stories about him, and literally fabricates glowing comments allegedly delivered in phone calls proven to have never taken place.

He, along with his closest allies and family members, is under investigation, and several of his hand-picked cohorts have already had to resign their positions in disgrace.

Not only is he paranoid about Democrats attempting to undermine him, he is now equally paranoid about his own party, and has tossed his staunchest Republican supporters under the bus in order to excuse his own failings.

And now, on top of all of the aforementioned, his idiotic, ego-driven sabre-rattling bullshit is propelling us towards nuclear conflagration – probably in hopes that investigations into his proven Russian ties (which could, when all is said and done, lead to findings of unmistakable treason) will be derailed by a mushroom cloud.

So, GOP – tired of winning yet? Your Idiot-in-Chief said you would be – and yet, only six months in, it looks like you’re losing your supporters at the same rate your Messiah is losing his mind.

If you think things are going to “turn around”, that the petulant child you elected will suddenly become “presidential”, that the 74% of the country who doesn’t believe a word he says will start trusting him, that the entire world will somehow realize that a lying, know-nothing jerk-off is worth listening to, I would strongly suggest you think again.

I’ve heard it said that the Democrats can’t run in 2018 and 2020 on being anti-Trump alone. Well, guess what? The fact that you Republicans put Trump in the Oval Office in the first place just might be enough to bury you – and I predict it will.

I only hope we can repair the damage this inflated jackass has inflicted on our institutions, and us.

Another year of this behavior is going to get people off the couch and voting. My concern is the voter suppression and hacking. But if we wage some effective response to those two then Rs lose, hands down.

that this country reached its peak no later than 1970 and has been on a downward slide ever since. Well, maybe it plateaued for a decade, but definitely since Reagan it's been downhill.

My personal assessment was that the decline was so very slow, and our (insanely expensive and totally detrimental to domestic policy) military might was disguising that decline. So long as we maintained bases overseas and continued to fight in various wars (winning clearly not mattering any more) then we sustained the illusion of being a world power.

But the signs have been there for some time. We're only one of two first world countries with a death penalty. The only first world country without some sort of universal health care or mandated vacations or maternity leave. 4% of the world population, 25% of the worlds prisoners. All sorts of things to be proud of.

What Donald Trump has done for us is to accelerate the decline. There will be no recovering from this, not really, even if he leaves office tomorrow.

The real question regarding this country's long term survival is at what point will we start closing overseas military bases? I sadly fear that they will remain open far too long, draining money from infrastructure, education, health care, or any other basic social needs.

Meanwhile, the deliberate denial of global warming, the belief on the part of our President that he can do anything at all he likes, the growing alienation of our allies, all these point to this country fading into irrelevance by 2020.

that collapsed because of an unsustainable military footprint rooted in foreign military adventures. Republicans fostered and promoted the deliberated dumbing down because it put them in power. There's a price to pay for willful ignorance, and the working class that continues to cut off its nose to spite its face will be the first to feel the sting of failure and pay heavily for its mistakes.

making the poorer classes carry most of the burden is another fatal flaw that brings down empires.

Several years ago I read something interesting about why Spain declined so rapidly as a world power after its height in the 16th century. According to whoever wrote the piece it was because the upper classes weren't taxed, but poor people were. For a time it was the most powerful country in Europe, colonizing the western hemisphere with almost no interference from other European countries. It took gold back to Spain, but invested nothing in infrastructure or education or anything worthwhile. Sooner rather than later it essentially collapsed.

We are so very clearly headed in that same direction right now.

stupidity and will "forget" all of the last 6 months by 2020. Americans choose to forget the past (recent and long ago) too easily. They do not learn from history or from mistakes. They will forget the lies, the dangerous decisions and actions, the hypocrisies, and the crazy moron's tweets.

Some however will never forget (mainly Dems) what has happened let alone forgive the party that brought us to this point. When Ford ran in 1976 many did remember that he had pardoned Nixon and chose not to vote for him for that reason along with the bad inflation/economy.

Times and society have changed in the past 41 years so we'll have to see if history will repeat itself.

Sometimes it's a shame being right.

We'll get through this disaster in time, but my gawd, what we could have accomplished with another Dem in the WH and a majority of Congress.

the world's most powerful military and largest economy is far different than being a cheesy pussy grabbing reality TV actor and shuttering casinos.
