That would end very badly. So far the institutions of the U.S. government have held up well against Trump (coupled with the fact that he's got the impulse control of a 2 year old who hasn't heard the word no and so can't stop shooting himself in the foot).

But fortunately there won't be a military coup, if for no other reason than the military is smart enough to not do something so utterly stupid.

would be proposing a military coup to take over the government. Did none of these people ever bother to skim through the Constitution, or take a high school government class? Anyone of voting age has at least a basic understanding of what a democracy is, and yet we have anarchists, fascists and authoritarians advocating for a military takeover.

...it shouldn't be their call, except as an absolute last resort to prevent Armageddon. That is the role of his cabinet and Congress, via the 25th Amendment. Hopefully, enough of them will eventually be steered by literal self-preservation over party loyalty, because the former is just about the only thing that would suffice to break the latter.

Just as a reminder, all these generals you think will be agreeable to locking up Trump, decided to work for that idiot of their own free will. Trump is still the CIC, and the military always follows their chain of command, and they are still working for him. That makes them more aligned with Trump and Republicans than Democrats.

Let's just forget about this crazy fantasy that the generals are going to change their spots and save the country when we have a Congress that is too timid to act.

because too many others would be exposed with drawn out impeachment hearings. They would rather be heros and take the nut out. We probably aren't close. He seems looney tunes to me to have made the statement he did.
Obviously, his cabinet and the generals are trying to bend the words & make it more palatable. I'm betting it's been discussed. Who knows. Congress built in protections against his rolling back Russian sanctions. How insulting, but he has no impulse control. Served him well for some things, until they became hard.
