Here's why I am not worried - or going to worry. (re the NK potential shit storm).

We - we here on DU, our family and friends, the population of the world, essentially - will be victims of whatever insanity does or does not happen. My worrying - our worrying - won't change a thing. There is, I suppose, some amount of trust needed - trust that someone, somewhere, understands what is going on, values life, and will step in. But that is certainly out of our control.

This territory is so uncharted that it is unfathomable - so there is life to be lived, walks to be taken, gardens to be weeded. I am not burying my head in the sand (though since we've not watched TV for 8 years and haven't gotten a newspaper in 6), I get my news here, and a few other places. Not being constantly bombarded with it helps, I suppose.

Anyway - we seem to be in for quite an adventure, for better or worse.

I just made a pizza using a no-knead recipe - it came out good. Some nice music is playing. My wife is quilting - the cat is next to me, two dogs at my feet. Feeling pretty peaceful (maybe it is the glass of Stone Imperial Stout that is helping).

Since I can't even believe that the asshole ended up as president, I am not sure I believe the constant, six month shit storm of ridiculousness and blatant criminal acts is real.

But - as I said, life goes on (or hopefully will).

Be well, all - time to talk the dogs!

Cherokee Chocolate, Lucky Cross - slow roasted some for 3 hours. House smells like a tomato infused pizzeria.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE life - but at 61, I've just figured out to worry when needed...but when I can't control something, I go into hedonist mode!

I remember growing up, even during the 70's and 80's, where there seemed to be a constant threat of nuclear anhilation. But if you didn't grow up under that threat I could see where it would be a tad disconcerting. I think your OP gets it right. Live your life.

and we got the yuck cleaned out with some bleach and and an old toothbrush. Tomorrow we will relocate it next to our bay windows in the kitchen. It was pretty hot outside but it beat listening to tRump run his yap and drum up a war.

I do believe we should be informed. I am listening to Dan Rather on Chris Hayes and I am looking forward to hearing Rachel's take on everything that has happened in the past few days. But you need to take time for yourself. This much stress can drive you wacky. So find something to help you relax and enjoy life. There isn't much we can do with the current situation other than make our opinions known and then stay informed. But don't be obsessed about it.

Try to find some balance. ⚖️

Tue Aug 8, 2017, 09:10 PM

approach one could have considering this rather vast collection of unknown extremes hurling around. If all the basics of my life were in order and I wasn't resposible for making the decisions that put my family at risk in this strange time we live in, I would probably have the resolve to put things to rest as you have. But I am very concerned for personal issuse I can't change because I can't burden my family with those concerns... so I carry it myself so they don't have to.

I have a 14 year old in Seattle, away from home for the first time participating in an important opportunity I would never deny him because of silly rumors of nuclear war, I'm concerned. I have a high school age daughter hiking on the west coast near points of nuclear contention. I worry. If by some strange happenstance there was a nuclear incident caused by two toddler minded maniacs with the power to wreak havoc on our society and separate me from my kids by a thousand miles, I would not be happy.

There are situations that make the idea of "oh well, I can't do anything anyway" not quite realistic when I have trusted my kids to a reasonably known society to find out that those reasonably knowns are on the verge of infinitely unknowable.

Please let me take the time to comment on how refreshing it is to hear about people in this country living a life of normalcy (as close to normal as anyone can get it). All of this controversy about what happens hundreds of miles away from home only serves to take away from that which strengthens our lives.

Worry is a useless emotion. Something will happen or it won't. We can be vigilant without worrying.

We need to not burn the bridge till we get there.
