I mean working for the government. I work for the State of California and although the salaries are a bit low, we do get decent health care and retirement.
And I started when I was 44. I found that age discrimination was real, but I also found that many older people go work with government agencies when they get booted out of the job market.
There are plenty of openings and it does take time (a few months) but for those who do want some retirement, it might be a good idea to look around at your city, county and state government offices.
