(476 posts)I expect Republicans to go bashing that. But when the Green kooks started in on it, with their conspiracy theory crap, that's when I knew I was done with them.

(180 posts)That one is easily debunked. The Clinton Foundation's records are all available online, including the actual Form 990 tax returns. Anyone who bothers to check will see exactly how much the Clinton family members receive in the form of compensation (I don't want to spoil the surprise, but it's kind of nonexistent). It's amazing that people are so willing to believe, and then SPREAD, these false accusations. Five minutes of research is all that's needed (ok, maybe 10 minutes if you have to register for free access). Instead, we have millions of "morans" looking for affirmation of their pre-existing views and opinions. They have no idea they've become real-life examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
I've got a few relatives in my family that are hard core conservatives, and it's painful to see how brainwashed they are. If a news story doesn't originate on Fox News, conservative AM talk radio or an approved alt-right website, it is dismissed immediately as "fake news". It requires no intellectual curiosity or critical thinking on their part.
The truly sad part is I have generally avoided family get-togethers over the last several years because I got so sick of the bullshit. I didn't want to be "that guy" bringing up politics, especially knowing how far apart our viewpoints were. But they just can't resist. They constantly spew crap, and I think part of their fun is to see if they can needle me. There's really no "winning" in that situation. I can make them look like the damn fools they are, but that also ruins what is supposed to be a nice reunion/holiday. So, I just find an excuse not to go...prior commitments, separate vacation, work, etc. It's better for my sanity, as well as my blood pressure anyway.

(5,823 posts)this post is pretty typical. Most of his posts can be debunked with a quick Google search. The racism is also blatant but I really don't think he has any idea.
I have tried to think of ways to respond in a way that might change his way of thinking but the brainwashing, echoing of false ideas and his limited social circle have really done a number on him. He is too far gone.

(21,704 posts)Did Trump Once Pay His Son's Boy Scout Registration Fee With Charity Money?
On Monday, the president gave a speech to the National Scout Jamboree. As has come to be expected of Donald Trump, his appearance was a controversial one.
And, adding another stain to his presence at the event, the story of Trump possibly paying his son's Boy Scout registration fee with $7 from his own charity, the Trump Foundation, has gained new traction.
"In 1989, Trump apparently used a charity's money to pay his son's $7 registration fee for the Boy Scouts," tweeted Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold, linking to an October 2016 report in which he looked into Trump's philanthropy record, which the businessman regularly boasted about in public.
