AUSTIN (KXAN) For nine months, Michelle and Chris Zavala could not wait to take portraits with their newborn baby girl, Clara. The baby was born two weeks early and the pregnancy wasnt an easy one.
She was considered a high-risk pregnancy, said Chris, Michelles husband. And, at 35 apparently they consider you a geriatric pregnancy,
Michelle developed gestational diabetes which she controlled with a healthy diet. Chris says his wifes labor on July 18 was a textbook case.
I went to lunch with my parents down in the cafeteria in the hospital; and, were sitting there for about 10 to 15 minutes and I get a text from her saying, Im fully dilated, said Chris. It was a beautiful moment.
...........................................
But the next week, Michelle complained of shortness of breath. She phoned her husband asking him to get home as soon as he could. Chris says he was immediately alarmed.
I heard something in her voice, he said. My wife isnt easily rattled.

(35,094 posts)Meanwhile, women are dying in childbirth in Texas at the highest rate in the US... and the highest in the developed world barring Mexico, yet it's supposed to be the state you're not supposed to mess with.

(16,391 posts)Please people, go directly to an ER with suspected cardiac or breathing problems. Urgent care centers can delay life-saving treatments. Totally not blaming victim or husband and she may not have survived even at an ER, but if you think it's serious get to a hospital!

And it says that 30% of the victims are black. Why?
