I helped a baby Carolina Wren.

I kept hearing a bird chirping. I decided to see what was up. I looked up the stairs and there were silhouettes of 2 birds. One flew away. I walked up the stairs to see what was up with the other one.

Poor thing. She was trying so hard to fly but she couldn't get any altitude. She had a full set of feathers. I caught her and I didn't see any injury so I put her on the ledge and off she went. I went downstairs to make sure she was ok.

She was scooting along the ground with some flying. I saw where the other bird went so I herded her in that direction. She went under some tree branches where the other bird had gone. At least they were low enough for her to perch on.

Hopefully, Mama will be there and she can relax. Poor baby.
Hope I did the right thing.

A batch was hatched in the birdhouse I have right outside the window. I watch the adults tote live inseces to and sacks of excrement away from the birdhouse for nine weeks. I shooed away a young hawk who was sitting on my lower roof a day before the chicks flew away. I saw the groupings of adults and chicks for 10 days or so. Now only the adults remain, not6 in the birdhoiuse, but in the bushes beneath my window.

Does anyone know if I should clean out the birdhouse? Or do they do this? I don't want to spook them.

Donkees

Wrens can clean out their own box and the presence of a used House Wren nest may actually encourage wrens to re-nest. But you should check to make sure the nest doesn’t have any unhatched eggs or pests. If it’s a mess inside and the drainage holes are plugged go ahead and clean it out. You can leave some sticks below the house to help them rebuild. There is usually at least a two week window before they nest again.

I love wrens, I have five houses in my yard, One such house I have had 2 nestings thus far this year. The last family left on monday, last. Today another male is singing near the house, And is cleaning out the house, taking breaks and singing for a mate.I have neve seen wrens clean out a house. It is so cool. This is another reason that supports my love of them.
